For me the worst comments I've ever seen on anti-choice sites have to be

"When life pushes you, don't say why me just say try me"

and

"Suicide doesn't end suffering, it passes it onto someone else."

Both involve people who have no idea what it's like to be in our situations, telling us how we should shut up and ignore how we feel.

So much pain...

I hate pretty much all of anti-choice advice.

The one I really hate is: "If you're going through hell - keep going" :I

How about NO? If a maniac captures you, starts slowly and painfully torturing you, and you have means to escape - should you just stay with them and let it happen till you die from pain? Damn no.

And that's exactly what some people's life is - a maniac that slowly tortures them. And there are different means to escape - it doesn't have to be suicide.

That "advice" gets thrown a lot on anti-choice websites and it gets praise! :nomouth: I just don't get it? I thought that the point of helping depressed people was to ease their pain, not prolong it :hmph::hmph::hmph:

Not exactly on the topic but close, other day I've mistakenly suggested something really stupid. Someone asked about carbon monoxide and I gave them data for CO2. Thankfully someone pointed it out immediately.

That's why someone like Robin Williams choosing to go made such a positive impact on my desire to CTB. He discovered he was on the losing end of a very serious degenerative dementia and took himself out before it could melt his brain.

He wasn't just funny, he was smart and used his intelligence to save himself pain. He's a true hero from every angle.

I'm suffering, maybe not as rapidly deteriorating as he was, but the option is there to be free of all pain if I just reach out and take it. It's always there as an option.

I hate when people claim it's cowardly to do so. This is absolute nonsense as you have go right against your natural instincts to do so of self preservation. Nor are they even consistent on this issue.

We see constant examples of people taking their own lives that aren't viewed this way. The old jumping on a grenade to save others for example. This actually does happen. In some cases the person who makes that sacrifice actually had a opportunity to possibly save themselves. But they made the conscious choice to take their own life and no one calls them cowards for it. Why? Because it's seen as brave to choose to die many if not most seem incapable of choosing to die under any circumstance. Now, granted that is heroic and most actions of someone taking their own life will greatly fall short of heroism. But no matter the reason on why someone took their own life they have to get over that same exact fear and instinct that the person who landed willing on that grenade did. Therefore it cannot be a act of cowardice and if it were being a coward is easy and suicide should be much more common.

I'll give further evidence on this by using this very forum. Go ahead and look at the discussion of methods here. Now, obviously there are methods that pretty much all of us could do right now. We could easily set ourselves on fire as certainly almost everyone of us has access to creating a fire. But most of us sure the heck aren't brave enough to do that. (I'm not) and would elect to take a much easier way out as do seemingly most of us here. This shows that suicide is if anything linked to bravery and that bravery is more of a scale. But suicide is most certainly on the brave end of the scale.

Then of course there is the idiotic fact that the person who is trying to convince the other person to not take their life is taking their time talking down to and belittling the suicidal person. How dense do these people need to be to think that this approach is somehow going to do anything more than hurting the person who wants to die. It just creates the complete opposite effect.

I guarantee you if we took a group of actively suicidal people and non-suicidal people and trained both groups in bomb defusal. You'd find the suicidal group having more volunteers when it comes to handling live bombs. If no one knew we were suicidal while attempting to defuse it we'd be considered brave and even heroic to be willing to die. Yet somehow we are cowards if they simply knew.

This topic drives me insane because it's a clear attempt to demonize suicidal people. Because they either can't admit that it isn't a cowardly choice or maybe it's a ego thing and they can't admit that they aren't brave enough to make that choice ever for themselves. So they reverse the roles and somehow you, the person who is willing to self terminate for whatever reason is somehow the coward and they are somehow brave.

A lot of psych meds can increase suicidal thoughts though. Which is one of the reasons they are so shit.

"Get out of your comfort zone".

The idea of it is quite the opposite of how you interpreted it and it works as an advice if you read it having in mind an image of "hell" as a finite territory, like a garden for a example (bad garden). Like, if you find yourself in the middle of this place, keep going and you'll reach the other end.

The best line came from my own mother as a response to me tryingto talk to her.

She said: "Why are you depressed? Being depressed isn't gonna help you."

"Get out of your comfort zone".
How nice must it be to have a comfort zone. And if your comfort isn't good enough, how is leaving supposed to help?

"you will regret all of the fun things that you didn't get to do" and "suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem".
How are we supposed to regret anything when the brain, the thing that allow us to fell regret, isn't working anymore?

Anything that attempts to guilt trip me into believing that suicide is not a viable, rational solution that all of us should have legal access to.
People are stupid if they think that adding sadness on top of depression is gonna help. Too bad they are.

"You just need to find Jesus" - of course, after being an atheist for 24 years, I'm totally gonna turn Christian because that's what I need in my life. These people are hopeless.
You got the wrong Jesus. They're talking about the one down the street selling weed.

I told my husband years ago about my pain sometimes causes me to wish I were dead, he said "If you kill yourself, I'll kill myself too, and imagine the heartache that will cause our family."
I had an ex-friend tell me that my depression was "bumming her out, and I should stop it." Same friend, different day told me I should just go ahead and kill myself since "you're no fun to be around anymore", just because I told her I couldn't drink due to my meds. (I was taking Amitriptyline at the time). Luckily she moved away. I wasn't mentally ready at that point in my life to separate myself from her toxicity. She was the only "friend" I had during this time in my life, and I didn't want to be alone.

This isn't exactly a anti-suicide advert but its something everybody says, ''You're not alone''. This is so dumb like why are you telling me I'm not alone other people who feel like me can't save me.
Another thing is ''Life gets better'' this could be true because nobody can tell the future but I heard someone say this ''if it wasn't better then why would it be better now''. So that last quote is my mindset really.

"You've had a bad life because God has plans for you. Just hang in there and you'll see".

Honestly I cannot stand religious people. The literal entire concept is baseless and pure false hope. I should've ended my life ten years ago as it's only continued getting worse.

I read in an article, that says "There is no painless ways". Enrages. It's either ignorance or a lie. If false, that's especially disgusting.
