Some weeks ago, my mum was in a clear state of mind, almost like before (she's severe sick now). And she said to me; I'm sorry I never really saw who you are, Sus. I tried to fit you in with all "normal" things, sports and education. I was wrong, I should let you flourish on your own terms. I'm so sorry I failed you.

I held my tears and thanked her. I cry inside when I think abouth these words. Of course I wish she'd told me when I was young, but parents are not perfect. No one is. There are so many words not being said. So much love in people, but we forget to share it.

What's the most important thing someone told you? And are you guys good at giving compliments or say nice things to others?

I'm really glad you got to hear those words! Something like that is super important to hear from your loved ones

A friend told me this as his last words to me before he killed himself; You're tenacious and I know you'll make it till you're an adult because you are a stubborn bastard but please when you make it bro, could you tell me how it is? I love you.

For context we had made a promise to each other a couple of months before that whoever killed themselves first the one thats left has to try and find out if being a depressed adult is any better than being a depressed kid is, since we had both heard a lot of "you'll change your mind when you're older" bs.

We were both 14 at the time now I am 21 (this month) and while adult life is basically just as shitty as kid life was I keep his words in mind to remind myself that I'm living this life not only for me and the people I love that are alive but also for the ones I love that aren't

The woman who picked up at the ctb hotline got me good. She told me that I'd make a great counseller some day. That meant so much to me because I care so much about helping people.

"So much love in people, but we forget to share it". Memorable quote, I really love this! You are so right. I make an effort to always try to lift people up. I'm not good at compliments, I'm still so awkward. But I try and people usually appreciate the effort!

I don't believe the nice things 99% of people say. Almost all of them demonstrate that it is not what they think at some point. I honestly cannot remember the last time someone said something that made me feel good IRL.

Sometimes my late father would stop me and just tell me how much he loved me, and how much I meant to him, and that just made me cry happy tears. Alongside my mother, my father was and still is one of the most important people to have been in my life and I love him to bits.

In my case of saying nice things, more often than not I struggle with how to word it, but I manage. The response is always nice, too.

The biggest compliment anyone ever paid me was when I got to know someone online, and she said that I seem too good to be true. As I know I'd been honest and genuine with her and hadn't made myself out to be any better than I really am, I thought that was quite a compliment.

She didn't stay in touch much longer after that, so it seems either she decided I was too good to be true and didn't believe I am as wonderful as I am, or she didn't mean it though.

I'm sure she meant it. You probably help her by being a really good guy. I've met wonderful persons online, but never in real life. It doesn't matter if we stay in touch or not. It's that good feeling in relation with others that matters.

"You are a good guy, people love you because you are an honest person." It hurts that despite that many people hurt me, people close to me have cheated, lied and crushed me ... I still think that I am paying for my old mistakes ...

I've always hated my voice and I still remember a random girl in school heard me talk and exclaim "Wow, I love your voice!" Unfortunately, that was the only compliment I ever got for it. Over the years since I've been made fun of or frowned at for my monotone voice many times to the point where I will not use voice chats because I hate my voice :(

I did receive a compliment the other day from someone I sorta know that said "Thanks for talking to me, you're a pleasant person to talk to". I've been so sad and lonely lately that it really made me smile in the moment.

Where is "here" if you don't mind me asking? Where I'm from in massachusetts, the wait staff actually can be rude too. But down south they are much nicer actually. Glad the waiter cheered you up!

I actually felt moved by OP's post. It hits home on what I'm feeling right now. I wish my parents would say that about me. I'm really glad everyone else has received positive comments too. It kind of breaks my fog of negativity when I hear positive comments that I've heard to others. I didn't really believe it (and I still don't) but an older coworker of mine told me "You are going to perform well in this industry". I still think it was nice of him to say those words to me.

thank you for the reply, when i said here i meant where i am at nowadays, casablanca morocco, actually i dont mind waiters who dont smile, i dont like waiters who dont talk back and who their facial expression shows some sort of contempt, it is pretty much aggressive here, so for one to smile while i am miles down inside my head thinking dark stuff, i didnt expect it

ah i see, well i heard about the south of the us, same thing happens in my country, people of the south are known to be very kind and gentle compared to the rest of the country, would it be business or just random people

I was being harassed mercilessly at work for a facial deformity. One day a regular customer came to the counter with as much softness in her voice as possible and told her daughter to hand the "beautiful" cashier the items to buy. It was such a touching moment of humanity. I don't remember the insults and scoffs and rudeness because I black it out, but I remember that moment vividly.

Probably gonna seem stupid and cliche; but when my mate at the time said they loved me. I guess because they meant it? It wasn't really even, just that. They said things to me no one else ever did before & It made me feel so wonderful. Nothing can top that. Being wanted (by someone whom I wanted as well). Yea feels stupid typing this..& prob is stupid-but grateful I experienced love irl. I

I don't remember. I usually don't take poeple's words seriously, I judge them by their actions. I can only remember the only 2 people who made me feel happy in the last 3 years.

I'm bad at remembering on command, what comes to mind is my cousin "Cousin I love you so much. No matter who you are, or what you have done. I will always love you. Remember that."
And my ex one time out of nowhere she just said
"I will always love you, even if the world hates me"
Unconditional is just the best 🙂, specially when it's out of nowhere.
