What's the one method you can't make yourself try? For me it's full suspension.

For me it's jumping because I'm terrified of heights and because I watched that episode of Bojack Horseman with the poem about jumping as a suicide method. I think the point of that was to scare people away from committing suicide in general but it really just made me scared of the jumping method alone.

From that list? Everything but N. I don't consider hypoxia to be suffocation. N is overdose.

Cutting or gun to the head is too much for me. Too bloody and awful consequences if you fail.

Oh drowning definitely scares me. In my mind it kind of falls under suffocation because it's depriving your lungs of oxygen just with water included. But I definitely am scared of it and am not sure how people are able to do that without resurfacing last minute due to survival instinct.

Anything depriving you of air while you're awake: full suspension, suffocating, drowning sounds awful. I'd much prefer something fast like jumping

Two categories I would never try are
1) Methods with an extremely low chance of success, like overdosing on pills, SN or cutting the wrists. Statistically, it's pretty much guaranteed you survive those, so not only are you not dead, but you also have to deal with the fallout of a suicide attempt, like the family drama, being put in a mental hospital against your will, possible health effects, etc.
2) Methods that are unneccesarily slow and painful like burning alive, drowning, (again) SN, or randomly stabbing yourself. Pretty self-explanatory. Some amount of pain is bearable but I see absolutely no reason to further torture myself.

It seems to me that SN does not fall into both of these categories

From your list, all but jumping. There's nothing that guarantees success like the sudden stop after reaching terminal velocity. From what I've seen, train wheels are also instant, painless, and free. Neck on the track. Gunshots work too, as long as the round or slug (shotgun) is large enough, and correctly placed. Really, the requirement is instant and painless. Poisoning seems like a horrible way to go, as do many other methods that aren't instant and painless.

Cutting

cutting for me, whenever I cut too shallow and cut over with force it feels so tingly. To have to make deep one and cut over to prevent clotting sounds like nightmare. And a lot of blood relieves me but I panic if I can't stop it etc. basically this situation to die this way takes a lot of decisiveness . And god the pain and speed

Drowning, setting myself on fire, and I've read stories where someone jumped in a lions or tigers enclosure at a zoo or animal exhibit.

Too hardcore for me, but I guess some people wanna go out in a hardcore way.

One method I know I would never be able to do is jumping, as I am scared of heights. There is nowhere high enough close to where I live anyway. I deserve a peaceful death, I would like to die by N. I am envious of those who can get euthanasia. I would only attempt ctb if I was certain that the method would succeed.

Out of the above it would be SN no question. Its a relatively quick and peaceful method that works for most people. However as an emetophobe knowing nausea is pretty much expected and there's a very high chance of vomiting puts me right off. The nausea would probably send me into a panic and possibly lead to failure.

I feel second would be jumping but if I was desperate enough or I was in the right place at the right time I could probably override any fear.

I'm surprised that cutting is the one most people are scared of. I think I'd much rather than over full suspension because in full suspension, once you kick the chair it's truly out of your hands. At least with cutting you're the one with the blade who can decide to back out last minute if it's too painful

i don't think i could ever attempt cutting. the idea of having to actually cut into my skin is kind of terrifying and seems like it'd be real painful.

All of the above but N and SN. Everything else I find either painful, complicated to do/requiring a lot of courage, violent or unreliable.

burning alive / self immolation

but honestly with enough sedatives and alcohol - to where that combination alone would likely cause death - i would be somewhat fine with any method as long as i was sure i would not be found before i succeeded

cutting also is not amongst my top choices but if i had a surgical grade scalpel, aforementioned chill-out chemicals, and perhaps some -caine as a bonus, it wouldn't be that bad

I would absolutely drown before burning. Not even close.

Other than fire, I think jumping is the one I would never do.

Drowning or suffocation seem like unnecessarily painful methods to ctb. Though, I think there is a way to drown free of pain.

Next would probably be stabbing/cutting wrists. I've read stories of people who stabbed themselves several times in the chest or neck and of course those who cut their wrists. You'd need some serious balls to tolerate that; balls I do not have. Maybe it would be bearable with drugs (?).

And then probably burning alive. I think the reason for this one is pretty obvious.

I had to rush an ex-gf to the ER after a wrist slitting attempt, and it scarred me for life. Seeing the yellow/white fat inside someone's arm essentially turn itself inside out is so much worse than the blood, and there's so much more than you might think. You see wrist cutting portrayed a thousand times in movies, but in real life it's so, so much worse. I can't imagine going out like that, and the immense pain/screaming she went through is the only reason I was able to catch her in time. This horrible method has inappropriately been romanticized so much in media.

It's really interesting seeing everyone's responses. Some people saying they'd never hang or drown and others say they'd rather hang than jump or whatever...fascinating how we all have our own foibles! For me nothing with blood, and preferably no vomitting!

Burning. Other methods are either not as painful or end relatively quickly or are more certain because you're less likely to be rescued.

Studies have shown burning is THE most painful way to go, and the possibility of you getting rescued is high because you will be screaming your lungs out from the pain. If indeed you're rescued, it puts you in the hospital for several days of excruciating pain before you go. Worse, if by some miracle you survive it, you're looking at a lifetime of disability, disfigurement, and even more pain. It's like this method combines the worst aspects of every other method.
