Discussion What would you do in this situation?

I'm in a Discord group and someone took SN this morning even after saying she was hesitating. The second after she took the SN she said she couldn't breath and that she was hanging over the toilet. She then claimed she wanted to live. People in chat told her to vomit, drink some water and eat something. After that she went to the mirror and told chat she was blue and her heart was racing. She then asked chat if she should go to the ER. There were multiple people in that chat but no one told her to call an ambulance after she said she wanted to live. Instead they sent cat gifs and told her to take a breather. What would you have done in this situation?

I would've told her to call an ambulance but I wasn't awake at the time this all happened. I'm pro-choice but the moment someone regrets their attempt I feel like they should be given the right advise and helped as best as possible.

If the person very clearly regretted their attempt and explicitly said that they wanted to live, then maybe it could be the right thing to do. But to me, it's horrible the thought of someone ending up in a psych ward or something like that. Unless the person clearly wants to live, then calling the emergency services against their wishes is completely unacceptable.

I'm pro-choice myself. But they clearly stated they wanted to live and asked people if they should go to the ER. I wouldn't be bothered by this whole situation if they hadn't stated that they regretted drinking the SN. Their last minutes must've been horrifying for them.

Apparently not or they did not care at all. When they told chat they were turning blue one person said "Doesn't mean you're dying, its methemoglobinemia" and the last thing they said was that their stomach was burning and the same person told them to eat soup. This event triggered me so much. They could have saved them but decided not to.

That is also what concerns me. He told me to shut up because suicide is suicide.. The minors on the server shouldn't normally be able to access the suicide topics but yet they can freely chat away there. I told him to let the adults talk because his prepubescent brain doesn't grasp the seriousness of what happened. I'm pretty tilted that they didn't take action to save their life. I've reported the Discord server to the Safety department.

I think it's pretty obvious that the people in that situation should've recommended contacting emergency services. Or should've called a family member or a trusted friend. Even contacting poison control would've been a better option than recommending soup, lmao.

It's unfortunate this has happened - It's obvious the Discord server isn't "pro-choice", it's more like a group of sadistic people gathering together encouraging each other to kill themselves first. It's obvious nobody in the server is educated to any meaningful degree, it's full of children (dumb brains), and there's a mentality to prepare for your suicide even if you're hesitant (As this person bought SN even when unsure.)

I would report the server in of itself, the messages attached along with it and the minor's accounts. Discord is pretty on top of this stuff and will ban the server fairly quickly. Especially if they think it's a server where people are dying.

I already reported the server 2 hours ago. They indeed all seem very uneducated on the topic of CTB. I tried arguing with them but it's to no avail. I wanted to find a decent discord server like SaSu (because I use Discord quite often) and instead I came to this garbage. I hope it gets shut down fast.
The servers name is Bus Stop so I thought it was a SaSu server at first.

So many people on that discord disagree and defend that what they've done the right thing. It is sickening.

I edited my posts but I cannot edit the first one. A life could have been saved here and it really ruined my day thinking about it. The people in that chat keep saying there is no blame to them for not having called the EMS and that they shouldn't have swallowed the drink. Discord already responded saying they'll look into the matter.

Hey, awesome! I was coming back to this thread to see if there was any kind of update.

Thanks so much for doing what you did. It's really sad on why this was done (and how it wasn't done before this situation). It will prevent other people from joining that server for now, at least.

There are still plenty of those kind of servers around. I joined another one just to see the same minor joining it as well. I talked to the owner and he's banning them now before the server gets removed. Looks like I've got some server hopping to do.

I'm very late posting this, but I agree with you, it would be right to advise them to call emergency services.

Even if they still wanted to CTB badly, ideally those who want to CTB will be comfortable enough to go through with it. It's not nice to CTB in an unpleasant way. If they don't like the situation they're in or going through, then it's not the right time for them. If they still feel like CTBing after recovering, they can always try again later.
