Today I exactly thought about that. I thought that the police man would look at me and say: He was ugly! Ouch

They will try to identify you and figure out who is your next of kin. They will contact coroner's office for autopsy if needed. They will deliver the news in person to your family

If you don't write any numbers, how do they find out your next of kin?

Man, just leave a note. If you have numbers for next of kin, why wouldn't you put it in a note? If you don't want to leave a "spill-your-guts-type-note", just jot down next of kin and contact numbers or addresses on a piece of paper. I don't understand the big deal here, really. I guess they could take your DNA and compare it to DNA on a genealogy website and track down some relative of yours that way. I suppose the police could canvass your neighbors and seek clues about your relatives like that. and you can just search a person's name on Google and have pop-up scores of sites that have some info about the searched person along with likely family members and other connections. We have all made trails in our lives. With all that said, though, there are instances whereby some people are extremely under the radar and can be much harder, or impossible, to identify. It can happen. But, it sounds like your'e really not in that group. Just tell them who to contact, whether a family member, really distant family member, coworker, priest, whoever. In the plan I'm working on now, since I am so alone, because all of my family has passed within the last few years, and because I KNOW that when I go it will LITERALLY be weeks and weeks before anyone even finds me, I cam up with the idea that on the day I decide to go, I am going to send a short note to my local police headquarters explaining what I have done, where I live, and any other pertinent information they might need to know, such as precautions to take, etc. I, guess, eventually, the police would be called once my mail starts piling up in my mailbox. I think the letter carriers still do that. But, I don't get that much mail and that might take a while to happen. And I know that it really doesn't matter how long it takes to find me once I'm gone. For some reason i just don't want to be lying there for weeks on end, possibly with animals feeding off my carcass. I'm going to have as many of my affairs in order as I possibly can. But, I have a limit on how long I'm willing and able to hold off. I know I won't have everything in order as I would like and I'll be leaving some type of "mess" that someone else is going to have to deal with, since I have no family to take care of my estate once I'm gone. The court will have to appoint a "professional taker care-of" person to deal with my shit.

So they'd use 23&me to find my kin? Lol
They could, if some of your relatives have submitted their DNA for analysis. I really don't think they like burying, or cremating people who have not been identified. I still can't figure out why you would want to conceal your identity. What possible difference does it make after you're gone? Is there no one to step up and provide you a proper burial or cremation? Do you not have your own plans in place for a burial or cremation, something that is paid ahead of time? Even if that is the case, there are still "potter fields" where indigent people are buried.

Obviously, you can do whatever you want, but in the long run, I think they'll figure out who you are if they find you. I assume you have neighbors of some sort, right? Even if you don't associate with them, eventually they will notice you not there. Do you get mail? The the letter carrier is legally obligated to contact authorities after so much time goes by and your mail starts piling up. Actually, I think they have to report it to their superiors first, but it results in the same thing. If someone knows you exist now, and I'm sure they do, you will, most likely, be identified. The only way to disappear that I can come up with at the moment is to rent a boat, head out onto a deep lake or the ocean, secure a heavy chain, maybe made of stainless steel, around your ankle, attach the other end of the chain to a weight, and go for a swim. All hypothetically speaking of course. Disappearing is harder than you think.

Thanks for the response. I guess my corpse will be paraded in the streets to be jeered and mocked at.

How do they find next of kin?
First it's spouse, then parents. And if they are dead, your siblings. If all your siblings and both parents are all dead, then it will be your grandparents, aunts, uncles, then cousins. Basically your closest living relative.

I think it all depends on how and where you're gonna die and what clues you leave behind pr lets say the spot.

I would guess they'd start by finding who's listed as living at the address where you are found. If it's your home, then that was easy work. If not, then not so much. Also they will look for any form of ID that is on your body when you're found. If you don't want to be identified then I would go somewhere that isn't associated with you or any family or friends, ditch your IDs and don't drive to the location in a car that belongs to you or anyone you know. Even then it will only slow them down. Eventually someone who knows you is going to realize you aren't around.

if they identify you then they'll inform family.
if you don't have any ID, phone, left car near your body, your corpse is found much farther than your neighborhood (someone might have reported it missing), your fingerprints/dna isn't in police data then you can't be identified, it's simple
