,maybe you should sell and enjoy yourself before you go? Remember it's your collection, enjoynthe benefits of your life, go be selfish and greedy for a wee while. If your unsure I'll be happy to help you come up with fun unique ways to have a nice time. Might as well spend your last moments having fun without consequence

I have a modest collection of fossils, a few hand carved statuettes from India, and a TON of books and vinyl records. Something tells me these will wind up in a landfill.

Not true, what about a wild night at the tables in Vegas? A Machu Picchu walk. A bunch of hookers and cocaine? Think about it life has no consequences, you have money and your all set to CTB once the fun stops.

I have a decent Green Day and vinyl record collection that I used to treat like gold. Depression kind of squashed that side of me, but I do worry about what happens to them too.
Not nearly as much as I worry about my fiancé and dogs of course, but it's still one of those earthly ties to consider.

I think I would want to find one or two serious fans who I know would appreciate them and gift it to them (via fan forums or reddit). If I could pass on one little piece of joy and nostalgia to someone else, then I'd be at peace with letting them go.

It may be offered to family members first if they want it. Whoever would have claim on your stuff. If, not it would be sold somehow, by auction, whatever. Proceeds become part of estate to settle expenses. It is best to have a will, and that way YOU can say where things go.

I've a massive vinyl collection, plus guitars, drums and lots of high-end hi-fi.

At this stage it's important to me to cut my materialistic ties. I've informed a dealer-friend that I'm going through a cancer scare and he might need to sell it all with a 50/50 split to my family.

Re-listen to them all one last time before pulling the plug, then will them to someone you think might appreciate them. Or at least someone who understands their value and is in a position to sell them.

I have loads of high quality hobby stuff, tools, etc as well as my own art, which I really hate the idea of it just being thrown out, even though it has zero monetary value. I'm going to leave it to a cousin who shares a few of my interests, and just hope they like what they see. If not, well, I won't be here to know any better.
