I took alot of breaths of nitrogen (maybe 15 or so) and didnt pass out so I am wondering if my gas is not pure so I want to test it. What type of meter can I test it with?

What did your oximeter say?

How did you breath it? Inside a bag?
You can get an O₂ analyzer to check purity.

Started at 100 and only went to maybe 95 after 12-15 breaths

Yes i filled a big empty bag with nitrogen (was deflated so i know there was no oxygen in it) and connected a plastic hose and only breathed from the hose. I had about 12-15 breaths before the bag was empty.
That one looks like it will only measure pressure from a car tire id have to mess with the valve to get a proper reading off my tank, or can I just fill a balloon with my nitrogen and stick the sensor in the balloon and get a reading?

Then that wasn't Nitrogen---You wouldn't be conscious after 12 to 15 breaths if it was--Your Oxygen number should of plummeted like mine to 45 or 50 after just 4 deep breaths

I bought my gas at an industrial chain store so hard to believe its not nitrogen. I did get a bit of tingles but like I said I didnt pass out or anything. Thats why I wanted to get a meter to test with.

Any other options for a meter other then the one mentioned above since that appears to be for a car tire?

Doesn't matter where you got it--You were just breathing air, either from the tank or elsewhere---I didn't mention any options for a test meter, that was another poster--Like I said before, your oximeter will show whether you're breathing 99% Nitrogen or not--Mine dropped from 98 to 45 in 30 seconds

Thanks for the info. I was just saying that because the supplier is suposed to be a reliable source. And its sold as "industrial grade nitrogen". So its hard to believe its not pure.

Something else I was wondering is are all oximeters prettymuch the same? Maybe my meter has a delay or something? Because I did feel my fingers getting the tingles a bit.

I got the oximeter below

Amazon product ASIN B07NZST4JB

Just wanted to post a follow up to this mystery! I found the source of error (why I wasnt passing out). I purchased a meter that detects oxygen and tested the gas and the meter shows the gas is pure nitrogen (0% of oxygen detected). I filler a plastic bag with nitrogen and sealed it then I let it sit for 3 days and took another reading. Over the 3 day span the oxygen went from 0% to 6%.

When I did the test above where I said I took 13-15 breaths this was from a bag of nitrogen i filled up at work and put the bag in my car to feel the effect of breathing nitrogen. After i filled the bag maybe a week went by before I breathed it in so I presume that oxygen got inside the bag and thats why I didnt pass out after taking so many breaths.

Makes sense when you think about it from the perspective of a helium balloon- after a few days the gas molecules exchange so much that the balloon stops floating.

I thought this was pretty interesting so figured id post my findings on here.
