I have an approximately 12 year old rescue dog, with me for 6 years, who I love dearly. I have a friend, who I was temporarily staying with and who was supposed to take my dog - he knows about my plans to CTB and does not agree with them. Now it is looking like he might not take my dog.

Because my friend was expecting family for the holiday and I am mentally and physically not up to the company. I took my dog and checked into a hotel with my SN and my dog. I had hoped to be able to return my dog to him after the holiday. I am now in the position where I have my dog and might have no where for her to go in addition to the fun and guaranteed process of CTB (it would be funny, but it is not and everyone here understands).

I have 2 homes in another state, but nowhere to go. I can't stay in a hotel forever. I looked up the rehoming of animals but it appears there are no quick options. I do not want her traumatized in a shelter. My heart is breaking and I don't know what to do.

If anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate them. Thank you for listening

Given her age, in a shelter you can also probably guess the fate that could await her, sadly.
Have you looked into maybe some local (or local enough) fb groups of animal adoptions, or depending on where you are apps or websites that could maybe cater to the subject. Finding her a family immediately to be rehomed into is the best solution, like you planned with your friend.
And said friend, how sure are you that they will go back on their word about taking in your dog? Despite the animosity between you both I still find it cruel towards the animal for them to back out on such an agreement.

Thank you so much for your caring response.

Yes, I can guess that euthanasia might be what happens with her age. I have been checking for rescue options but so far it seems to be where you have to submit all vet records (which I do not have as they are in another state) and put the pet out for rehoming via online profile.

"Said friend" very complicated scenario known each other for over 40 years and he loves my dog. It might still work out but I was looking for another workable alternative. I agree with you about the cruelty aspect. It might still work out.

Obviously, SN CTB in hotel room with a dog not a desirable option either. Again, I appreciate your answer.

As in her medical paperwork, or records directly with a veterinary clinic? Because if it is with a clinic phoning them up and asking to be sent copies my email could be an option. Hopefully.

Yeah, the safety of her future relying on a gamble isn't fair.

Also yes, she is very much likely to sense your passing or struggle as you go. I wouldn't advise keeping her with you for it.

I'm sorry you're going through this tough situation. I really hope you find a solution for her, and yourself. That you find peace however you chose it.
