What precautions should I take before posting here?

I really really want to leave a message, somewhere, anywhere at all, about everything that's happened to me, why I'm doing what I'm doing, and how I plan to do it. But I'm afraid of attracting unwanted attention to myself. Can posting here get cops called to my house, are hacking attacks common here, should I be using a VPN? Or is it fine and I don't really need to worry?

If I were you, I'd definitely avoid things that openly identify you- just to be on the safe side. If you wanted to leave a message after CTB- if you intend to (not saying you should,) you can shedule the thread to post at a later date. In that one- you could be more open. You'd have to be confident the method would work though- or- that you would be able to cancel it from being posted if it failed.

its fine there is no need to use a vpn unless u wanna hide your history from ur parents if u still live wit em. posting on here isnt illegal and the cops wont get you. if you do have privacy concerns i would reccomend using tor as your browser tho. also having a vpn doesnt rlly protect u from much. as they are mostly scams.

One of the best parts about this forum I that you can talk about almost anything and you won't get censored/ judged. Exept if you are an annoying pro lifer trying to convince ppl not to CTb ofc. You can freely talk about your trauma or whatever you are going through.

I think if posting about wanting to die automatically lead to the police being called then nobody would do it and this website very likely wouldn't exist anymore. This is the one place where people can anonymously post about their plans to die without the fear of such a thing happening.

use TOR. most vpns hand over your data if police ask for it. don't share info that can give away who you are. don't give people advice on how to CTB directly, it can get you into trouble if the cops do find ya depending on where you live. they can track ya via vendors if they get arrested but it's quite easy to lie. just stay careful in general, yeah?

ive never heard of anything like that happening to anyone here. if there are people in your life who might be able to identify you or could stop you then you should take precautions to keep your profile hidden from them, but otherwise pretty sure you can post whatever here (within the site rules obviously) and you'll be fine. ive been pretty open here about planning attempts and trying to find methods, and nothing has happened to me. personally i use tor and the onion url to be extra cautious, it might not be necessary depending on what you do, but if you're paranoid like me it adds an extra layer (pun unintended) of security and anonymity

You are getting some horrible advice in this thread. Making mistakes on this stuff could cause massively negative consequences to your life.


You should be using a VPN if you are connecting here. TOR is even better but probably excessive. Otherwise your ISP can see all of your requests to a suicide forum in their logs. They may be required to report this in some jurisdictions

You should never use your real name or show anyone on here your face , maybe with the exception of if you have an extended ongoing communication with a specfic person.

Finally you should not give any details specific enough to identify you personally.

Call me paranoid but you don't want to find out the hard way that you made a mistake

There are some things you might consider, but maybe there are experts here that know better.
But using a VPN service and using Chromes' Incognito mode probably adds a layer, that would be good for any interaction on the Net, not just SS.

This community is so nice and helpful. Would it be alright if I asked what TOR actually is? I've known about it for years but I have no idea how to use it or what it really is or if downloading it is risky. I've only heard about it through spooky stories lol

One of the admins (dot) told me that any pictures you share on here are not stripped of something called "EXIF data" which is esentially metadata that exists in pictures and videos that could leak your GPS coordinates, camera data and make, and much more. If you want to share personal photos or videos of yourself, strip them using an online EXIF data remover which automatically removes this data without you having to manually do it.

Other than that, all the prior advice that people have given you is sufficient. If you are extremely paranoid, just use Tor.
