Once you start thinking of ways to die you're suicidal imo

I realized that nothing makes sense about being alive; it's just a journey that some were lucky enough to enjoy, and that even death can feel better and calmer, peaceful and transcendent, but most people simply live because they're content with the crap they've been dealt.

its too complex of a topic to boil down to one reason. i think most people that are suicidal have lifelong things that add up to being suicidal, theres so many factors that go into wanting to die that its hard to pin point one moment. i dont think theres a flip of a switch that one thing happens and then you wanna ctb.

ofc not everyones the same so i cant speak on behalf of them, but thats just my thoughts.

The whole thing really is absurd. And yes, through whatever forces or brain chemistry, some people just happen to enjoy it and succeed while others don't. I don't think we're really in control.

Contemplating taking your own life. But, I'd say passive ideation also counts so- stuff like: 'I think I'd be better off dead.' As soon as death starts to look like an appealing choice/ consideration- I'd say someone is experiencing suicidal ideation.

In general, I'd just say suicidal ideation is sufficient in determining if someone is suicidal. Simply having the reoccurring thoughts would be good enough for me.

But ill also provide a broad example of what a hospital or clinician would look for in terms of identifying if someone is suicidal. This varies hospital to hospital but I can give a general overview as to how risk is identified.

Ideation: Is the person experiencing suicidal thoughts?
Intent: Does the person have a desire to act?
Plan: Does the person have a specific plan, time, and access to the means?
Behavior: Does the person have a past history of suicide attempts or are they making preparations?

Which btw if you ever tell a doctor or therapist all four of these(or honestly three of these) you are going to be at risk of being 5150'd(involuntary hospitalization). Same goes for suicide hotlines and police(at least here in the U.S.).

I guess when the idea of suicide starts to sound more appealing than staying alive, it's too subjective to say for certain. What one person considers suicidal might not even begin to scrape the idea of suicidal for another person.

If the prospect of just dying tomorrow, or today or right now sounds better to you than living.

I agree with those saying thoughts are enough. A plan certainly but something is different when you think death would be better than this.

For me it is wanting to permanently cease existing and all I want is to be free from this dreadful, torturous and futile existence and never suffer again, for me non-existence is just all that's positive, I just want peace from all the suffering and I suffer simply from being burdened with this existence I just always saw as a mistake, for me existence is the problem and I'll just always prefer to not exist than suffer so unnecessarily with no limit as to how much one can be tortured just to die in agony from old age.

I think killing yourself makes you suicidal. Just a theory though.

If you ask the psychs your never suicidal unless they can make a buck off it. Har har.
Seriously though. Once you start considering methods they will probably consider you suicidal would be my guess. Many , many people are passively suicidal. 80% of people have the option of suicide cross their consciousness. Very few will ever consider it as a rational option, or feasible option. [ however you want to word that. ]

I've done some study and learned people who are going to commit suicide will usually deny it. People who admit they think about suicide statistically won't. So the correct move is to admit to thinking about it, but deny the thoughts about methods.

That's my two cents.

I daydream about killing myself fairly often but I don't think I'm suicidal enough to count.

Then again I'm active here so maybe that's a sign.
