What are you even saying? Yes suffering is different for everyone. Just as happiness or love. But we're talking generally here. Not specifically. The question wasn't "what's the point of this specific suffering?" nor did I said "this specific suffering puts this other specific joy into perspective"
I'm guessing you also don't use such words as hunger because everyone experiences it differenently to various degrees
Simple scenario:
If 100 people are at a party, having the time of their lifeā¦
And outside on the street, these happy people witness a horrible accident and Someone is in terrible agonyā¦
Do they keep partying and having a great time, or do they go outside to help alleviate the person's suffering?
Most people will stop partying, because even one person suffering is more consequential than 100 people being happy. The suffering has more intrinsic value than the happiness. It has much greater significance.
Deep down instinctively, we all know this. But yet we perpetuate suffering in this life, and even promote it as being virtuous to suffer. It's a lie we tell ourselves, because we are stuck in a toxic addictive game.
Happiness is merely a distraction from the higher value affliction that is suffering. A brief reprieve if you will⦠and of course we all pursue it to one degree or another, because who the hell would not want relief from suffering? No matter how fleeting the experience may be.
