what would happen in this scenario?:
suicide note is sent to a family member by delayed email a month or 2 after suicide person has actually CTB...
The suicide person was not thought to be, nor reported, as missing prior to note.
The suicide person does not have an address to check on. phone will obviously be disconnected.
they have no job and minimal contact with outside world that would normally draw attention to them being missing early on.
of course eventually someone would notice that they are missing in time.
suicide person has been known to go off grid before.
suicide person has set up future transaction to send life savings to family member he emailed.
so... I assume the family member's first response would be to try call the suicide person but their phone will be off. They do not have an address that can be checked. Nor many people to call to ask "have you seen suicide person"... the suicide person has lost contact or fallen out with their many friends as a part of their illness. They are only in contact with one family member from an otherwise very dysfunctional family.
the suicide note requests not to bother looking for them as they are in fact gone. it doesn't say where or how as they may be hard to hear, only that they went off to be in peace and wanted to minimise inconvenience to others (innocent person discovering body, arranging funeral etc) ... It isnt doubted by family member, as the suicide person suffered mental illness, left job, isolated, etc.
My questions...
Will the family member have to report the suicide note to the police even if the note requests not wanting to draw attention?
if they dont, will the family member potentially face legal consequences or become a suspect ( they received bank savings)?
if they do report it, will the suicide person's life become investigated as a missing person e.g search party, interviews, internet search history, bank accounts etc?
or will the suicide note and clearly missing presence be enough proof for police it was a suicide....?
Will they try to locate a body?
how will they try to locate a body, i.e phone location, search dogs in nature reserves?
If no body is located, will there be legal complications for family?.. e.g closing bank account or anything suicide person left unaddressed.
Will the grief process be harder if there is no body, even though the person is clearly dead and it was their wish not to be found or have a funeral?
If a body is located, what will happen now that it is decomposed/ing
SCENARIO 2:
suicide person instead sends delayed email to police so they can locate a body and go through the conventional process.
person suicides in car in remote location away from public with inert gas.
suicide person leaves notes with their body for loved ones.
Questions:
Will there be an autopsy despite death (inert gas method) being seemingly clear.
Will suicide notes be passed on to family or kept as evidence.
How much investigation is required to rule suicide in this case...
Would this be less shocking and traumatising for a family member to find out this way as opposed to first scenario.
Would a family likely want a funeral even if suicide person didnt?
I'm driving myself insane trying to find answers to these specific scenarios.
Which scenario do you think will be easier for those left behind?
Much appreciation.
