I have spent so much of my time feeling suicidal and thinking about ending my life, but the thing that has always been hardest for me to grapple with is what happens after I'm gone. I don't want anyone, especially my loved ones, to have to go through the trauma of discovering my body. I understand that they may be hurt by my departure in general, but I want to minimize that in any way I possibly can. If it makes a difference, I'm leaning towards SN probably, so it wouldn't be a super gory scene or anything.

Are you able to rent a hotel room? There is no way a corpse ever looks good, or smells good, or is fun to work with.

If you want to make sure that your family members are not the ones to discover your body, then don't CTB at home or any place they have access to. Rent a motel room, go to the woods, a secluded forest, your car parked in a secluded place, whatever, so that a stranger or authorities will find you.

I struggle with the same. I could send delayed text or email but my dogs would be here with me until someone gets here and that even freaks me out

I understand this. This worries me sometimes. I'm so sorry for the person who finds me. I'll be so badly decomposed by the time someone finds me. I'm leaving a note apologizing to them for the gory site they are about to witness. I'm putting a cloth over my head, so that they don't have to look at my face. I don't care how I'm handled. I don't have family. It's a very jarring thought, but I can't care about it. I'll be gone. I hope you can make some kind of arrangement to have your avatar handled the way you want. Good luck.

I think about this too.

I want to make it as easy as possible for everyone involved. I don't want to be found a considerable amount of time later when I'm decomposing, smelling bad and the people who remove my body would need to endure that.

I've considered blocking the door to my home with furniture, calling the non emergency number informing them that I'm ending my life, then hanging myself. The police would probably show up at some point, but by the time they do and break through the door, I'd likely be dead.

I wish it could be easier. My family have went through a lot these last few years and I don't want to cause further hurt.

your body will be blue.
you might also pee or defecate in bed so for me i would make sure ive already had that taken care of.
and that i'm off my period, of course.

This is what I struggle with, I have 1 healthy dog who is totally bonded to me, and a senior dog. I fear I'm going to collapse from fatigue. Feeling so trapped

If you live in the U.S. an autopsy will be performed. I suggest you write a will and have it notarized before you go so that your wishes are carried out.. Otherwise your body will be at the will of your next of kin.

It actually never occurred to me to go to the forest, but this is such a good suggestion! Nature and being outside have always been really important to me, so this seems like the perfect way to go for me. And it would definitely make it easier to lower the chances of traumatizing anyone with my death! Thank you so much for this response :)

I think maybe a delayed email notifying somebody is a good course of action for anybody who does make the choice to ctb. That way they can relay the message to professionals whose jobs are to retrieve corpses. If those professionals can find a corpse before anybody else, that is the best case scenario. I personally wouldn't want to traumatize a stranger, but that is just me. That is also why I think people who choose a hotel should send an email to somebody that will notify the hotel that their room contains... well... a corpse :'( I would never want the cleaning crew at a hotel to find me. Their jobs are already tough enough as it is, and should not entail finding corpses! That type of discovery can haunt somebody the rest of their life, even if they do not know the person who ctb. Any location that somebody chooses can be directed by an email to prevent strangers from being traumatized. It's also really difficult if somebody isn't found for a long time b/c the family has no closure and has to worry about what happened to their loved one.

I think this is a great idea! I am now thinking about doing it in the forest somewhere, both for the seclusion and for a peaceful last few moments. I would send a message alerting people to my location, so that trained professionals would be able to find me soon after I passed, rather than friends or family or even strangers who didn't sign up for it. If I encourage my loved ones to have the authorities locate my body, then I feel less bad because by choosing that profession they have more or less signed up for seeing dead bodies, and they will also have had the time to prepare themselves for it on their way to me.
