What are side effects? I'm genuinely curious, seeing out my options as I don't want to die painfully or if I end up surviving I really really don't want any health complications afterwards

You could have permanent marks on your neck and possibly brain damage.

Depends on how quickly you're found or fail. For me, I attempted a few years ago and failed due to my involuntary SI detaching my belts from my structure (my setup was flawed and I didn't take the thrashing into account). I didn't pass out for very long, maybe a few seconds at most (?), but certainly not long enough to cause any lasting damage. I found myself on the floor, very dizzy with a lot of brain fog. I had temporarily lost my hearing as well, but it came back after about a minute or two. I had to stay on the floor for a while before reorienting myself and standing up. I was tired and dizzy with a massive brain fog next day.

If you don't fail or are not found for a while, as @befree said, you'll most likely end up with brain damage.

Best of luck in whatever you choose to do.

The consequences of failing hanging are devastating, worse than most other methods. There was a man who got paralysed completely except for the ability to blink, and he was forced to stay alive for several years despite his wishes. It's the reason I wouldn't try or recommend hanging, even overdosing is probably a better method. It's unfortunate that one of the only reliable methods is so risky.

I'm really sorry you had to experience that, thank you for telling me your experience. I really needed to know this, I might not go through with it now that I know this. I wish you have a safe recovery, if you're in the process of it! <3

Fair, I have tried to overdose before but the pain was so severe I don't think I have the courage to try again

Thank you, remember, what happens to me may not happen to you. Everyone who does partial reacts differently. As far as recovery goes, I've tried it but unfortunately can't seem to get it right. I'm currently trying to gather the strength for another suicide attempt. Take care

Hey. I've failed partial twice. I know, I know. I'm just as bad at dying as I am at living. Anyway, no real things to report first time but second time I had a mark on my neck for about two weeks, headache for a day or so. I never got as far as passing out though.

Hanging starves your brain of oxygen, so I guess the big worry is serious brain damage. It's something you either want to get right or fail at early stages. I've been doing a lot of practice for my final attempt in a week or so.

Only done partial because I'm too worried about paralysis as a side effect but the only effects I've had from failed partial and being strangled to back out before is:
burst blood vessels all over my face & in my eyes (no lasting damage), bruising on neck, loss of hearing for a few hours, sore and raw throat (obviously) and I had pressure headaches for a while after one of the incidents when I wake choked out. Pressure always gave out after or before total black out so any further and there might me more severe symptoms

I'm very sorry whatever you might feel deep inside that caused you to attempt it twice, thank you for sharing your experience. Being out of breath in general seems really scary to me as I have really high anxiety that triggers whenever I feel like I cant breathe (which is like about 3 times a week). I don't think I have the courage to do it myself, you're really brave and strong for still standing today! <3 I hope you recover safely if you're on a journey to recovery

I'm so sorry :( That sounds terrifying, I can't imagine how you feel after a hanging attempt. I hope you're recovering now and feeling better than what you did at the times you tried to end it all <3 Also thank you for sharing your experience, it means a lot!

Is there a way to hang myself without leaving marks. In case i fail, i dont want questions.

Honestly I don't know. Maybe it depends on what you use as the knot? It was just really red for me, then bruised. Not 100% clear "this is a rope burn" but yeah I guess enough. My best friend knew, since we lived together, and I just took two weeks off work sick and didn't see anyone.

I don't think that's possible, but if you do get marks you could buy yourself some foundation in your skintone beforehand to cover it up until it heals
