Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, Drinks?

If you're currently living by yourself, what did you eat when you lived with your parents/guardians?

The only thing I eat is rice and beans. Very annoying. My parents don't even buy fruits daily despite them not being poor by any means.

I drink lots of coffee. In terms of food, I eat a lot of eggs, in various different ways. My favorite is some sort of broth I make with a bouillon and a few eggs. Aside from that, I eat meat/chicken/fish when available and I buy one or two cakes every week, because I like eating cakes.

Oh and lots of tomatoes. I love tomatoes.

Since I became really suicidal I've been eating a lot of pizza, Chinese, spaghetti, and I like to go to places like McDonalds and Burger King. McDonalds is cheap I can go there and get like 2 cheeseburgers and a large pop for around 3 bucks and just sit there for an hour or so and drink a few refills starring out the window or watching all the old people drink coffee and read the newspaper. Burger King has the best coupons! I was at Burger King the other day just sitting there starring at the table and one of the girls working there asked me if I was o.k. I told her I was o.k. with a big smile on my face but what I really wanted to tell her was that I'm not o.k. but I will be o.k. once I kill myself but she probably would have called the police on me.

I live alone. It varies day to day, because I like variety and I like to keep a balanced meal. I can give a general synopsis of what I buy.
Meats: Chicken, pork, beef, fish
Veggies: Carrots, asparagus, peas, corn, green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, lima beans, potatoes, squash
Fruit: Pears, apples, blueberries, pineapple, tomatoes, peppers
Others: Eggs, cheese, cereal, various soups, pasta, rice

My mother was an abusive pos, but she made sure we were fed a balanced meal growing up. She basically bought the same things I currently do.

*I eat out occasionally, but am currently trying to stay away from fast foods

Basically everything that sweats carbohydrates. I'm hypermetabolic, so I can gobble up food and not put on an ounce (though it's not all a bed of roses, there are some unpleasant side effects)

I am a vegetarian so I guess I eat lots of vegetables, rice, pasta, bread, and other carbs. For my protein I get it from lentils, beans, tofu, tempeh, etc. Occasionally I eat fruit but I don't like some fruits. Mangos and watermelon are probably my two favorite. I try to eat cleaner if I can to lose weight but sometimes I can't help but to eat ice cream or pizza or something bad for me. I like all sorts of international cuisines as well so I try to diversify my food palate.

Ice cream, crackers, fruit juice, breakfast cereals, legumes, pizza. Sometimes I take a break adding vegetables to the mix

Lucky..I don't have a job so have to rely on parents who just cook the same old food and don't seem to buy much of tasty food.

I hate having to eat. But I do it anyway. I absotutely never gain weight and it allows me eat everything. But I don't. I used to eat a lot of delicious food. Not anymore. I'm barely eating now and my body wasn't even altered, no unbalances, no weight loss, nothing.

I don't care even of food and I eat every piece of trash I can. Not something definited.

I mostly eat what my parents have, and that's normal food but not too much meat and not too much vegetables for me.

I also eat a lot of junk food because I'll have to die from something if it isn't by my own means.

I try to keep processed foods out of my diet, unfortunately that's not always the case.

I tend to only eat organic and if possible fair trade products. If I can't buy organic, I buy as high quality as I can. If I can't buy fair trade, I buy local. Lucky for me, there's a large polish population with a lot of polish markets, so I can buy through them. Also not too far is rural farmland, and there's quite a few farmers markets.

Typically, I solely drink water, coffee, and tea.
I tend to eat mostly staple foods. Rice, Beans, Grains, root vegetables. I actually have over 180 pounds of jasmine rice in my pantry. I also eat a lot of fruits. Bananas, oranges, apples, and most recently watermelons. Leafy greens and vegies dominate my diet. I eat a lot of spinach, kale, and collared greens, I eat a lot of salads. I've been making my own dressing as well as of recently. For protein I typically eat cage free eggs, greek yogurts, and chicken. I try very hard to make sure that the chicken comes from a known or local source.

I do eat deli meats. I try very hard to only purchase the highest possible quality deli meats. I love head cheese. =]

Try to eat healthy, I live alone, but since benzo withdrawal I have developed a bad relationship with food. Binging on biscuits and cakes. I don't have set meals, I eat when ever but food is always on my mind. It sucks to be honest, i think I've swapped my addictions to food.

Unfortunately it has a lot of side effects (increased sweating, sometimes restlessness and anxiety). The thyroid is a little bit messed up.

Hmm, but I also suffer from anxiety (one of the things that ruined my life, as a matter of fact), which also causes restlessness. Yet my metabolism is trash. Oh well, nothing I can do about it.

I know how it feels to compensate some old habit with food, I hope you find a better solution that suits you. Music, a hobby, walks, tea or fresh fruit/berries for starters.. Wanted to comment since I can relate.

Processed/frozen crap, junkfood and lots of soda. Haven't shifted more than 3kgs up or down in 15 years .. i always remain on the skinny side.

At lunchbreak at work i get the occasional sandwich with some meat and vegetables.

I don't care much for eating healthy ... Not like i'm trying to become 80yo or something.

Unfortunately depression and the paranoid thoughts (and God knows what else is going on in my brain) has robbed me of enjoyment through other means. And even if I do do those things, I know a binge is always around the corner, it has got better, but still an issue. Thank you for commenting, I really appreciate it, hope things are okay for you

One thing that has worked for me in times where I've tried to change things is going fruitarian for a while. Basically I'd just eat all the fruit I wanted until I was satisfied, and a little more - preferably on one or two combinable fruits in one sitting. And yes, just fruit, only fruit. There's a thing called the 80/10/10 diet that has saved many addicts and people with eating disorders - not to mention people struggling with all sorts of illnesses, including myself. I thought I'd share this in case you hadn't heard of it and it might spark your interest. It can be done for just one single meal, one day, one week or a lifetime, look it up, do your research though if you go all in, of course. Is it extreme? Is suicide extreme? If it helps, it helps, and I believe it is superior to most, if not any diet - not to mention the SAD one: Standard American Diet. The reason I mention this here is that it is so very easy in a situation like this where you have very little will power, because there's nothing to contemplate or control other than what fruit you feel for that day, and then you go to town on that with no regrets or second thoughts - and get full, fulfilled and healthier every time. Some believe we as humans are actually meant to eat this way, just like we would in our natural habitat when encountering fruits in the rainforest/subtropical areas on earth back in those days..

There are many variations on this theme, people arguing about the "perfect" diet and so on, but I think that's secondary. The important thing I've learned is that food can be so many different things and can be made to work for me in stead of against me - and if I need to binge and swallow myself through an armful of food, it might as well be a whole watermelon, a dusin bananas and two handfuls of dates. I'll go to bed with a beerbelly, but wake up feeling and looking fresh and shiny.

Freelee the Banana Girl is one of the first 80/10/10 youtube pioneers, but there are many out there. I don't advocate fanaticism, but you can use her methods as tools to find what suits you.

Enough rambling, sorry if this is out of topic or out of line, wanted to share just in case it might help you or someone reading. You're welcome to pm me if you have questions!
I hope you're okay as well and am glad to know it's getting better!

-M

- Oh, and eating fresh like this has incredible effects on the mind and psyche as well.

Cooking is my only hobby. I use video games/movies/shows and sitting on the pc to take out the total dullness of life, but the one thing I'm good at in life is cooking. I sometimes go through periods where I only eat to survive, but the cuisines I really enjoy cooking are south-east asian/asian. Anything from Indian, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese. I often imagine that one of the few roads out of suicide for me, is to find someone who would support me in exchange for me cooking for them. Bonus points if it could be romantic.. but the odds of either of those are extremely, extremely low.

Can you elaborate?

When I was a teenager I could eat tons of junk food and not gain any weight, but that is likely because of puberty and all the carbs and stuff being used to help my body develop. As an adult I had to change my eating habits significantly. I mean, I never got really fat, the most I weighted ever was 67kg (I am 1,69cm tall), but the placement of the body fat I gain when I go crazy on eating is... unfortunate, to say the least.

I just really like eating, but there is just so much vegetables I can eat before I get bored. It is hard to get tired of meat, but meat is really expensive (for someone who doesn't work), so I don't always have it available. So my usual food is, well, eggs. Eggs are cheap, tasty and you can prepare them in so many different ways.

I've been eating sardines and salmon almost every day as a last ditch way to try to improve mental health but I love all unhealthy foods, coca cola, McDonald's, Wendy's, bratwurst, mac and cheese, pizza, donuts, et cetera. And every other day I'll make a green smoothie like spinach and berries and juice or collards and of course, coffee daily. xD

I had the worst nutrition as a kid. But I became a vegan in college. Since then, I eat about 70% fibrous vegetables I'm always experimenting with exotic dressings for. One of my favorites is blanched broccoli florets (freshly cut, steamed on high for 2-min) mixed with pan-seared and blackened whole bulb garlic, julienned roasted red peppers post-deseeded, and balsamic-soaked garden-picked baby tomatoes (steam thickened balsamic to double concentration to ~ 6%) all tossed in 2:1 rice wine vinegar and cold-pressed sesame oil, and crusted over with pin-crushed black walnuts, sit 3-hrs fridge top shelf or serve while broccoli is still steaming.

I make a quinoa-red lentil polenta (presoak together with fresh wakame and miso paste to taste overnight, 1% by mass sea agar 4 hours before cheesecloth press to thick mozerella-like mass, solidify in fridge additional 6 hours, then thick-slice (~1 cm) and oven toast at 375-F for 15-min before pan-fry in a barely coated cast iron skillet on very low heat until golden brown with stabilizing caramelized shell).

The polenta can be served on a bed of baby kale that's been hand massaged with 4-tbsp fresh ginger, 0.25-tsp Himalayan pink salt, 0.75 tbsp agave, and 3-tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice per 3-pounds leaves until wilted then placed in freezer for precisely 4.5-minutes (stiff but still pliable without any vein ruptures). The leaves left at room temperature will become succulent (instead of stringy) within 15-minutes.

And I make my own kombucha to which I add 3:1 cinnamon, tumeric to taste, usually 3g per 1L kombucha. Add after cultures have carbonated beverage and stir very gently with glass--not metal or plastic--stirring rod. Chilled to just above freezing (no ice--dilutes c/t...), this brings out both the agave's and miso's subtle sweet/salty tang.

Timing the broccoli salad is very flexible as hot, it emphasizes the core-burn of shell-carmelized garlic, and cold it calls out the heady notes of the sweet tomatoes and red peppers.

Bon appétit.
