Suicide prevention serves no useful purpose that benefits suffering people. It only benefits politicians and non-depressed people so they can feel they are "doing something".

Like many responses here, I feel like it's not really helpful for people in the long term as long as there's no help dealing with the root causes that led a person to choose to end their lives. I know a few people who found prevention services helpful mostly because they were attempting impulsively, without having carefully considered whether end of life is something they actually wanted. But for people like me - terminally and chronically ill and financial problems that will render me homeless in another 1.5-2.5 months, I'd rather receive counseling on how to end my life peacefully and with dignity, while minimizing any inconvenience to others and pain/trauma I might cause to the one person I still love.

I think a lot of these statements are valid. Specifically the one on passion suicides. People love to push medications. Why? Band-aid cure. Not every suicide, person, story if the same. No everyone will be cured with medication. I have absolutely nothing against medications. For some a God send others... Something that causes side effects with little gain. I think most people here carry a story. Instead of caring and listening then acting/advising whatever there's a lot of pushing meds instead. In today's world quick and easy solutions are the rule not the exception... You are guaranteed to become depressed/unfixable if your only goal is medication. Never in the entirety of my battle was the root cause addressed. In fact avoided.

For instance what about the person with no friends or family? Telling me meds will fix that?

That said white people in my experience going through what I have gone through do not have an inherent community in the US. While I am white myself therefore can't speak to it I am led to believe black/hispanic/native American etc... have a community. This is why the suicide rate is much higher in white people then minorities. Furthermore, I don't the the US society, government, etc... cares about white people. https://www.usnews.com/news/health-...ng-for-white-americans-but-not-for-minorities Look at this article for instance. Rate of suicide was 2x that of black Americans. If white people have it so great why are they killing themselves at 2x the rate. One they just dont. Two white Americans specifically a subset are lacking a true community. Nor is a clear one present to join. When black people experience injustice they rally around each other. When a person is a victim of a crime, struggles, needs help after they turn 18 at least in my case I was told I'm too old to ask (28/29) to get help and to figure it out myself. And people wonder why the suicide rate is so damn high.

What do you guys think about suicide prevention? Do you think it is helpful? Could it be helpful if some changes were made? Or do you think that it serves no purpose?
It depends, if you are underage or had a terrible experience too recently, you would definitely be better off with a good professional but the issue is - good professionals are usually nearly none existant in this field I think, either you are tortured as a criminal, doctors test drugs on you and overmedicate you as if you were a lab mouse, you get told useless methods on how to recover, and your therapist has the brain size of a sesame seed. If there was a system that could house you and provide good living conditions + education/ carrer opportunities when you find yourself in an unsafe household, if you could be reintegrated into society when you have been isolated by people who abused you, if there were systems to protect you instead of taking advantage of you to test medications and ignore your safety issues, if you had a village standing with you and guiding you to a better life instead of villainizing you and threatening you, then yes, such a system would save lives, save lives and improve them, but most systems as far as I know, force you to live because economically it is more advantageous and do not indeed improve or show you how to improve your life.
