Science has no more idea what comes after than anyone else imo. I expect the after to be complete nothingness as most of the stories otherwise just seem like wishful thinking that humans are so routinely apt to do. That being said, there is nothing to justify my idea any more than the idea of reincarnation/heaven/hell or whatever story one wishes to subscribe to. This is why Pascal's wager is a thing.

I asked google the chances of our individual existences and it said zero. So maybe we do come back to the universe

I don't think science can touch the subject. The game wouldn't be fun if it were that way.

I always suspected that the way this all works is that we're not supposed to know. Knowing would influence our behavior. If we behave well and endure without expectation of reward then that will show who we really are. This idea only works if God is not omniscient

According to the Bible which is the written word of God, there is not immediate entrance into an afterlife. Your body just goes back to being dirt, and your soul ends when u stop breathing and lose consciousness. If u have Holy Spirit that goes with God to be held until Jesus's return. When Jesus returns the dead who are believers will be raised up first, and then the living believers will follow. When we are raised up is when we go into an afterlife of some sort. It's suppose to be really nice. God doesn't disclose too much about what it will be like. No one knows when Jesus is coming. Could be soon or could be many years from now but I'm guessing it is not very far off. We are getting close to the book of revelation events about to play out.

None, zero. That doesn't mean it's not fun to think about it or speculate.

BTW, I am God. I didn't write the bible. I got my pet monkey to do it while I was golfing…

Not knowing is the name of the game.

But also, I've heard from many people, one was just two days ago, when she was in the hospital and nearly died that she heard and felt her father who had passed years before, pushing her, urging her to fight through it and survive. Her sister took a photo of her in the hospital bed and there's a filmy red object hovering near her which they think was her dad's spirit.

My grandfather who was Norwegian but moved to the states, woke to see an apparition of his mother by his bed. He learned the next day that she had died in Norway at the moment he saw her.

My my father died suddenly I heard him talking to me for 3 weeks after that! I couldn't make out his words, but I recognized his tenor. (It was clear he was trying to apologize.)

Besides my own experiences, I've heard way too many stories to think the're all made up. That said, everyone gets to choose for themselves what they believe - until, if ever, science has a way of proving anything - which I highly doubt will happen, at least in the next 100 years or more.

Why should I or anyone believe the Bible is divine? I actually want to be convinced. Maybe then i'll have a reason to live

One of the problems is that you can't just say "the bible", because satan worshipers have created a number of corrupted translations. Also, "most" of the popular churches (ex. Catholics), and particularly the 'modern' churches, are corrupted and non-biblical. In the KJV, Matthew 7:14 says: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Not to get into a theological discussion, but I suspect it's the faith itself that makes all the difference. When I gave up marketing a while back, it was because I stopped believing in convincing people of anything. People should be free to make their own choices and reap their own consequences. However, I would recommend looking into non-modern versions of the bible and Christianity. Not sure if that would immediately give you a reason to live, because you're likely to encounter a tremendous amount of bullshit intended to divert you from the narrow path.

There's two Gods.

This is some pretty girthy sacrilege. I would, uh, reread your book and maybe find a different denomination if this is what you've been taught.

I'll address the text specifically, rather than the actual stories of the Bible, because New Atheist whining about "Seven Day Creationism" is a waste of all of our time.

When dealing with the Old Testament, you have a few mainstream views. First, the fundamentalist view, which is that the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Torah) was written by Moses, and the Psalms, prophets, etc. were written by their credited authors in the OT. To be fair to fundamentalists, research has shown that Jewish scribes were in fact very accurate copyists. The Masoretic text (from which the KJV, ESV, etc. are translated) is remarkably similar to the "Dead Sea Scrolls" fragments found in Caves near Qumran, despite being copied in different lines, hundreds of years apart. In regards to the Pentateuch, a popular critical view in academia is the documentary hypothesis, which was first proposed by Julius Wellhausen in the 1800s. In it's most basic form, the documentary hypothesis postulates that the Penteteuch was compiled from four sources: Jahwist, Elohist, Deuteronomist, and Priestly - or JEDP for short. Because the documentray hypothesis enjoyed great popularity in western academia (particuarly in America) it's modern critics slam it as circular argumention, which is rarely supplemented with textual evidence. In Europe, it isn't quite as popular these days. Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle. Although many Christians don't see this as a necessary issue, Moses almost certainly did not write the Pentateuch, it contains more than one voice. Additionally, the Old Testament as a whole is filled with stories popular in the Ancient Near East, and though some Jews/Christians use this as evidence of their verity, I found the parallels difficult to deal with as a Christian. The book of Proverbs is particularity Egyptian, Yasna 44 (from the Zoroastrian Avesta) and Isaiah 44 seem to converse with each-other, and I'm sure we're all familiar with the Gilgamesh/Noah's ark parallels, for some examples. I do genuinely think Christians and Jews can view the Old Testament as inspired in an academic, intellectual manner, though. For me personally, it was studying Zoroastrianism that made me give up on defending the Old Testament. Zoroastrian-Jewish studies in comparative religion are rather new, and unexplored - there are some skeletons in the closet for sure.

As far as the New Testament is concerned, it isn't quite as interesting. The NT is fairly reliable, and we have the manuscripts to prove it, and the variants that exist in New Testament manuscripts don't typically interfere with our ability to reconstruct the text. This doesn't account for an evolution in the oral tradition of the gospels, though. There are a few theories about how the gospels developed, which order they were written in, etc. but I'm not going to get into it here. If you want an introduction to some of the tensions, read about the "synoptic problem." Unlike Old Testament scholarship, New Testament scholarship is predominantly concerned with dating the books of the New Testament, and ensuring they were written by their credited authors. There isn't much emphasis on how the stories developed per se.

So yeah, TLDR, I think you could accept (non-fundamentalist) Christianity in an intellectual way, if you're willing to deal with some snares. It's ultimately a matter of faith, and (from my point of view) what you're willing to deal with to hold onto said faith.

So then u worship Satan? 😳 the God of this world? There's two Gods. The creator God who loves and created us and Lucifer- the one that controls things in our physical world and encourages our destruction.
Gnosticism is so first century.
