I ordered SN from IC in September but there is apparently a police investigation going on now and I just had two cops show up for a wellness check. They went away when I told them I didn't know what they were talking about (I don't know or care if they believed me) but they did write down information from my ID. Has anyone else in Canada (I'm in montreal specifically) had something like this happen lately?
Wow.. I'm in uk and had welfare check tonight. Told them I disposed of it and they believed me. Was unsettling alright. Especially they were speaking loud on door step and I told them to keep voice down because my brother could hear it. I've persuaded them my family it was a mix up on polices part.
I've heard of a few canadians through other threads that had wellness checks too.
Montreal too , tonight was the night i guess for our city. Im in CDN , what neighborood are you in ?
Interesting, I'm in St. Henri. Too bad it wasn't a few days later as I'm moving on Monday, but doesn't seem like any harm done, apart from the shock of seeing police at my door.

Its over but CARBON MONOXIDE is still an option burning charcoal briquettes , using a gas generator while taping all the room , they cannot prevent that and its as good as SN. PPH handbook has it as very peaceful and painless , 8 or 9 out of 10.
This won't necessarily save you. It might, but I'd still be prepared.
They checked up on me even though it was ordered to an old address. If they want to track you down they can.

I haven't had a visit but I think that these visits are BS and wrong.
In most cases no one has done anything illegal so why are the police showing up to harass people and invade their privacy ?
They are putting many in a difficult position in full view of their neighbours and families.
It's not illegal to plan and commit suicide it's not illegal to possess sn.
If anyone truly cared about the wellbeing of the person then it shouldn't be the police visiting but a professional in mental health.
However I don't think anyone should be visiting at all.
As far as I'm concerned if I do at some point get a visit I will have nothing to say to them at all. We're not obliged to answer any questions or allow them access to our homes.
For us Canadians, the most ironic thing is that starting next March, MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) will officially include those with mental health issues in CANADA. I know they will make it impossible to be approved but after reading and watching videos about this past year long panel and advisory board that decided on criteria, etc. they gave an example of someone who would fit criteria and be approved and it sounds like me. So it is possible, just the process will take longer than anyone of us would want. That being said, what are the prolifers going to do when its their government that is approving our suicide?? why waste their limited resources now on useless wellness checks when the mental health system is so broken. And it's ridiculous that we have to have approval from a government that really doesn't give two shits about us to get a peaceful death.
It all feels political to me. We all know what the political climate is like in Canada right now. It's all about point scoring and the media's involved in riling things up as usual . These "wellness" checks are a farce. It's nothing to do with caring about the wellbeing of people. They have an agenda that's all. I really hope that people realize that law enforcement don't have a leg to stand on and that they haven't done anything wrong.
Everyone please careful what you say here. I see what people say here after LE visits could become a ground for another visit from them. I don't want to spell out what are they, just go back and read your posts carefully. You might think LE doesn't know who you are but they may just revisit everyone they visited. This time they might even get a warrant using these evidence. You may think it's perfectly legal to hold so and so things and how could they get warrant but they are very experienced in these kind of things and there are lots of ways to get a warrant. Even if they couldn't get a warrant they may still visit just to put pressure on you get what they want. And you don't want that unless you enjoy chatting with them.

I wouldn't recommend staying silent. That makes them more suspicious. Remember that they have every right to involuntarily hospitalize you, so it's best to play along with their BS and make a story up.

Yeah. They've been misusing MAID already though. People are getting approved solely because they're homeless. The government doesn't give a fuck about us. They just want to save a buck, getting rid of citizens that cost them money.

At risk of giving up my identity here- I'm in Canada and was paid a second visit by police exactly a week after my first one, at 9 at night. There was no reason for this 2nd visit, everything was well after the first one. No new questions were asked. When I asked the purpose of *another* wellness check, the officer replied that the system (or file number) hadn't been updated after the first visit. I wasn't buying it. This 2nd visit was harassment with the purpose of intimidation and not one bit for my own welfare. The officer this second time around had a significantly different demeanor than the first officer from a week ago. She was over-eager, arrogant and quite condescending. I got the impression that possibly, with the media attention around KL, that she was after recognition or a promotion. I am on high alert, expecting more harassment. I'm worried about more late night knocks at my landlord's door and more surprises, even a search warrant. Just a heads up to others, and any advice welcomed.

I got two visits already, but they were on the same day, and I'm still worried they're coming back. I was starting to calm down since it's been 7-10 days but now I don't know if I should still be concerned. As you say, at this point it's just harassment.
I wish I had advice for you. Obviously, read up on your rights (the Canadian Civil Liberties Association has lots of great advice and pamphlets on your rights). Most cities and provinces have phone lines or centres where you can get free legal advice if you feel the need for it – Google "community legal services" or something like that. I'm sorry I don't have more to offer. I hope they stop disturbing you.

This type of visit appears to be occurring here in the UK also. I suspect that because of international co-operation between Police & Customs Agencies they are all arising from one supplier having been investigated and their trading records for SN viewed.
In the UK from what I've heard the Police involvement seems, generally, to be fairly laidback. My personal view (I have no inside knowledge) is that as far as the UK is concerned the Police are just covering their backs, in case someone later ctb and the newspapers start one of their witch hunts looking for scapegoats.
