Sorry for posting another long ass text. This is a comparison of my 2 methods of choice, only with the resources that are realistically available to me. I am not trying to compare these methods in general, only for my specific circumstances. I am trying to kind of present their pros and cons and decide between them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SN method with only OTC meds:
I can not realistically obtain any of the prescription meds that people recommend on here. So in the best case scenario I would have to use a weak OTC AE, which doesn't even work on the right area of the brain anyway from what I have read on here, so I don't really see the point of using it at all. I could use some painkillers though.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Full suspension hanging with rope from pullup bar:
I have detailed my method on a previous post on my profile, I could easily access all the necessary materials for a theoretically perfect and guaranteed hanging.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
What they have in common:
I have done extensive research on suicide attempts using both methods, and one thing is certain: neither one is painless or peaceful at all. Many people just look at a couple posts on here and are convinced that hanging is instant and painless if you hit the right spot and compress the arteries, and likewise for SN. The truth is, it is very unrealistic to expect not to suffer to some degree from either method. In practice, it is almost impossible to achieve the "perfect" hanging when you are doing full suspension without pressuring your wind pipe and struggling to breathe, and a lot of members who documented their SN attempts experienced many uncomfortable sensations (panic, constant urge to vomit, violent vomiting, extremely fast heartrate, nausea, headaches, burning throat, general uncomfortableness in the body, varying amounts of chest pain etc.). Obviously some people did manage to ctb using these methods quickly and with minimal pain, but those cases are much rarer than some of the posts here would have you believe.
I can do both of these in my room with relatively simple setup and preparation.
I would need at least 1 full day home alone to complete either method, so that I can safely take my time to complete the setup and eliminate the possibility of being found and rescued.
Both methods would make my life hell in case of failure, it is already very bad but it would be even worse. I can't imagine somehow being discovered early due to some extremely unlucky circumstances, being taken to the hospital, having my method taken away, being treated like a crazy person and being constantly monitored so that I could not realistically attempt again for a long time. Not to mention the feelings of my family and how I could ever be able to talk to them again after attempting to ctb.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hanging:
- extremely high success rate, can only fail if the setup is not solid enough or by being found early
- no chance to be saved by SI after committing
- extremely popular and proven method
- 1-3 mins to unconsciousness
- maximum 20 mins after reaching unconsciousness for full brain death
- more painful than SN (generally)
- very uncomfortable
- extremely traumatising sight of corpse
- extreme risk of serious permanent (brain) damage in case of failure
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SN:
- very unreliable, especially without a strong AE, although the vast majority of documented failures are due to outside interference rather than vomiting
- can be saved by SI after taking the drink, there are several reports of people calling emergency services on themselves
- niche method, not that well studied
- time to unconsciousness highly uncertain, it is a gradual process which generally takes from 10-30 mins but there have been attempts which took longer or shorter
- full death can take up to multiple hours after reaching unconsciousness
- less physical pain than hanging (generally)
- good comfort level, since you can lie on your bed just like sleeping
- the sight of the corpse will not be as ugly compared to hanging
- quite low risk of serious permanent damage in case of failure (brain damage especially rare)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some final notes:
On paper, hanging seems like the much better choice, mainly due to much higher reliability. However, for the sole fact that choosing SN would allow me to chill in my bed, put on some music and try to relax as much as possible, it is worth considering. The comfort that SN offers is very attractive and I wonder if I should look over all its flaws in favor of comfort. I could in theory try SN and then hanging afterwards in case of failure, since I am unlikely to have any serious effects, but it depends on if I am found before I wake up. It is a big risk.
