I have a large mormon family. And it disgusts me how religion uses the young for it's own purposes. Most religions do it,but Mormons seem to be a more intense example of this. Mormons baptize their children at 8 years old because they believe A CHILD CAN MAKE ADULT DECISIONS at 8 years. They say it's the childs choice but obviously an 8 year old probably doesn't understand enough about life to create a lifelong commitment to any particular religion. Also they teach children that sex is shameful and a responsibility to god and not an act of love between consenting adults. And they wonder why marital rape as well as other inappropriate behaviors like child abuse happen. Mormons have a 40 year old man alone with children asking them if they masturbate. religion can make such inappropriate behavior be considered normal. Parents believe it's in the best interest of the child to be raised in religion but there's absolutely no guarantee of that. People stupidly believe that a child will turn out evil if they don't have the fear of god in them. Religion has absolutely nothing to contribute to human morality. Nothing. Thou shalt not kill and other basic ethics were secular laws created hundreds of years before Moses time. Most christians still believe in Armageddon, which could very well be the trigger that starts WW3. And to top it off, they have the arrogance to claim moral superiority over others. Religion should NOT be taught to children. It should be a personal matter. No one should be allowed to treat anyone as less than because their god says so. Religion should be primarily about the metaphysical and spiritual or emotional, not Sex, perversion money and power hiding behind the guise of spirituality

That is often what religion excels at. They all have their own good and bad points. Some get too close to being a cult. As long as you are around you can be the "bad" influence they need.

Just as artists have made demons and other creatures of the night sexually attractive, the Church will use a new aesthetic canon for angels. I wouldn't mind angelic daddies either.
Religion should NOT be taught to children. It should be a personal matter. No one should be allowed to treat anyone as less than because their god says so.
If this stuff are instilled in children so early, it's because in those years we are a sponge that absorbs all the knowledge that is presented to us, things presented as important and that are learned at that age are very difficult to forget later. Many times the Bible is not taught in its entirety to children, because what happens to many when they read it in its entirety, they disbelieve, either because of the contradictions, things against current social morality and others. Faith somethimes is contrary to reason and that is why when doubt arises, many react sharply and violently.

For this reason and because they are people who genuinely believe they are doing good, it could be hard to discuss and make them question what they do.

They already watch anime haha. No effect on religious belief nor Jojo posing yet. Religion is like a blind spot for otherwise critical thinkers. And what sucks is parents choose religion over their own children and make the children socially, financially and emotionally dependent on the religion. People definitely use religion, regardless of whether it's true or not, to cope with life. I don't mind that part but I do mind the perverted, arrogant, greedy beliefs that cause harm to innocent people.

I was baptized as Lutheran when I was just a baby, soon after I was born. Fortunately, I was never forced to go to church. I think I was baptized for "precautionary" reasons. I'm not even sure it counts, anymore, since I'm now atheist. I never got my morals from the church, and I think they're pretty high, to be honest. I don't think any church cornered the market, in any way, as to the concept of what is right or wrong.

Mormons don't baptize for precautionary reasons. When an 8 year old "chooses" to be baptized,it is considered an eternal commitment and responsibility.

I personally think people should have the right to do or believe whatever they want as long as it does not harm or infringe on the rights of another human being. Your extended family has the right to believe in religion just as you have the right to be a suicidal atheist. I do not want anyone trying to convince me to be religious nor do I want to convince someone to be atheist. My body, my choice...your body, your choice.

I'll check it out. Hammurabi's code of laws is worth noting as well. And it sounds surprisingly more civilzed compared to the 10 commandments and book of Leviticus.

Did you read my post at all? If so you have utterly misunderstood it. They are harming children. I never said people shouldn't believe in religion at all. There are so many harmful beliefs in religion, especially Mormonism.

You think people rape because they're told to be abstinent?
I just think behaviour like this happen because the person is a sex-pest who cant think without their dick, that's why, it has nothing to do with religion and everything to with themselves.
I agree with Mormonism being stupid, I can't even believe such a thing exists
I read it and they have nothing in common. The rules in both are something that always would arise, literally all laws would say not to kill and rape and lie and since abrahamic religions have only one God they would obviously have a rule to not worship anything else.
This is basically convergent evolution but in law/'meme' form instead of a biological form.

There are too many denominations. Bible is inspired by god useful for teaching reproving. You can be christ by faith without any religion.

Not having sex with another person until marriage is not necessarily the problem I'd say,but pressuring/requiring/expecting absolute abstinence is. Demonizing sex, something perfectly natural to being human , is bound to cause some considerable mental health issues. Also, teaching married couples that sex is strictly about procreation and not consent, fun or love is bound to lead to cases of marital rape, which do happen. So religion helps justify these abuses by it's teachings, even though people may do them because of their biology. I shouldn't have to mention all the gay people, including teens, who killed themselves because they were disowned and called unnatural because of these perverse religious teachings about gender and sex. There's a verse in the bible that directly approves of rape, under certain circumstances. It's worth noting that people's sex drives, perhaps especially males, can be quite powerful,so that to forbid all sexual activity, including masturbation, is incredibly foolish and a recipe for disaster. It will make people feel desperate for sexual gratification .No good can result from that. People need healthy sexual outlets, which is why the majority of christians actually do have sex before marriage. They would go crazy if they didn't. Requiring absolute celibacy is like requiring someone to stop eating food for an extended period of time. It's dangerous, harmful and illogical.
