Warning: I mention vomiting an excessive amount of times, in fact I say the word vomit more then 20 times so… Oh also this may be triggering for individuals with eating disorders, especially bulimia.

Anyway I previously made a comment about the recovery position, but I want to share more information for anyone considering a method that may induce vomiting.

Important Considerations Before Vomiting:
Vomiting on an empty stomach can be very painful. Take small, frequent sips of liquid rather than drinking too much at once, which can worsen the situation. Using a straw may help control your intake and reduce swallowed air, which can trigger more vomiting. I don't know why someone ctbing would drink one of these in the moment but just in case don't drink milk, citrus or carbonated beverages.

Understanding Vomiting:
It is important to note that just because someone vomits doesn't mean all the ingested substance has been removed. Once a material is absorbed into the bloodstream via the stomach or intestines, vomiting won't remove it. In fact, vomiting after absorption might further complicate things, as forcing contents back up can increase pressure and promote further absorption.

How to Vomit Safely:
Positioning: Rest in a sitting position or in a propped up lying position. When you feel yourself about to vomit, your body will likely lean forward slightly to direct vomit away from your airway, reducing the risk of inhaling, swallowing, or choking on it.

Recovery Position: Once you feel faint, leaning forward becomes dangerous. You should immediately assume the recovery position. Not placing yourself in this position can result in falling, which may cause loud noises and choking among other possible painful complications.

I just want to say lying in the recovery position is the safest option. Ensure your environment is clear and that you have as much space as possible to avoid hitting anything if you need to move. This position provides support, and if you start vomiting, it reduces the risk of choking and minimizes the force on your body. It also resembles a half fetal position which is known to have soothing effects.

When in this position, your head may naturally tilt toward your chest. However, it's important to tilt your head slightly up to ensure your airway is clear.
This position can be practiced, and it should be very clear where your head position should be. It would feel like if you were to vomit, it would spill out of your mouth quite easily.

Potential Complications of Vomiting:
Aside from the obvious risks of choking or swallowing vomit, there are several complications that can arise:

• Aspiration: If a person vomits and inhales the vomit into their lungs, it can lead to aspiration pneumonia, which can be severe and potentially fatal. This results in a feeling similar to drowning, as liquid has entered the lungs. It is also more painful because the stomach acid can burn the lung tissue, which it is not designed to handle.
• Dehydration: Excessive vomiting can cause dehydration, especially if fluids are not replenished. Severe dehydration can lead to shock, with symptoms including weakness, rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, confusion, and low blood pressure.
• Electrolyte Imbalance: Vomiting can lead to the loss of electrolytes, disrupting normal bodily functions, including heart rhythm and muscle contractions. Severe imbalances can be life threatening, with symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, muscle cramps, confusion, dizziness, and potentially seizures.
• Esophagus Damage: Repeated vomiting can irritate or tear the esophagus, leading to inflammation or esophageal rupture, which can also be life threatening. Symptoms may include a sore throat, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and a burning sensation.

If for some reason you wish to induce vomiting, methods include pressing the back of your throat near the uvula, drinking mustard water or salt water, or swallowing emetics. Using salt water to induce vomiting can lead to hypernatremia, a condition characterized by elevated sodium levels in the blood. Hypernatremia may result in severe dehydration, seizures, coma, and, if untreated, can be fatal. Inducing vomiting is not a considered a safe practice and may lead to the brain swelling, throat irritation and in some severe cases death.

Many people experience a sense of panic when vomiting. It can help to stay calm by using techniques such as deep breathing or humming. There are also some pressure points that may offer relief. Although vomiting is likely just a normal response, there is potential for painful complications to arise. It's important to understand these risks and what steps can be taken to avoid complications to reduce suffering. Please put yourself in a position to avoid choking/ swallowing/ inhaling vomit.

That's all. Stay safe! ♡
