Still, if I were to do it, I wouldn't want to tell any of my friends or family. I wouldn't want anyone to try to stop me. Still, I've found a strange comfort in the 'goodbye' posts- that they weren't entirely alone when they passed.
Yes I can absolutely relate to this.
The goodbye threads are a chance for people who are dying alone not to be completely "alone".
It makes me sad that too many are forced to die alone (as it would put friends/family in legal jeopardy if they didn't intervene).
IMO it is the job of a community to bear witness when someone dies. To acknowledge their suffering and lending support by making them feel less alone.
If the cost is that there are some fakers amongst them, that's fine. It won't lessen the value and support we give to those who do truly pass.
