Venting cause i can't get a job

I can't take it anymore. I flunked out of college, went back to my depressing rural hometown, and my friend offered to let me stay in his apartment in a big city until I can afford to get my own place. I thought it was awesome, but I've been here for a month now and applied to probably thirty jobs, and I haven't even gotten a single interview. They're all entry-level jobs for places like Target, the mall, cleaning jobs, etc. and I have years of experience in customer service and management, but I haven't gotten a single response. The idea that "nobody wants to work anymore" and "everyone is hiring" is complete bullshit. Employers just want a skeleton crew that they can work to death, or they have ridiculously high standards for their shitty retail and fast food places. My car is on its last legs, so I can't travel home to see my family, friends, or my girlfriend until I can get another one. And I don't have the money to go out and do anything in the meantime. My whole life is just sitting in my friend's apartment eating ramen until he decides to kick me out, and I become homeless and die out on the streets. I might as well just kill myself now and get it over with.

If you have nothing left to lose, lie your ass off on your resume. Apply to a set number of jobs right when you wake up so you dont do like me and piss the day away playing minecraft lol.

Im not saying to lie about degrees or anything like that but say you are applying for a janitorial job, well just so happens back 8 years or so ago you had a part time job for two years on a crew deep cleaning restaurants overnight. Unfortunately the company no longer exists so cant find any phone numbers for them to check employment.

I'm sorry that's happened to you. It sounds really crappy and stressful.

Obviously, I can't know what's putting these hiring managers off, but if you're applying online, it may be some issue with your resume. If you're applying in person, your stress and frustration may be leaking out.

Also, it does sound like you might be over-qualified for these roles you're applying for. If so, have you addressed that? If not, employers may think you'll disappear as soon as you get a job more in line with your experience / qualifications.

I'm in the same situation. I know this sounds terrible but can u go back home? I know how depressing that is but the cities are tough because it's just more stressful and especially if u are not established already. The economy is being destroyed, u might be better off in smaller city. I've witnessed same thing when pple say everyone is hiring and nobody wants to work. It is true that nobody wants to work when the pay isn't enough to live on.

Took me about 6 months and 500 applications to land my current job, with 15 years experience and a master's degree.

I sympathise, I'm in the same situation but for different reasons. I know why I'm not hired and why I never will be. I'm well qualified and have experience but that can also be a drawback, I also think there is a lot of BS about the multitude of jobs around, I can't find them. Good luck in your search, I've given up now and I'm off to university to continue my worthless education.

Employers are the worst these days. They don't give many people chances and there are too many applicants competing for very few jobs. There isn't an abundance of work out there. In fact a lot of jobs have already moved over seas, are automated or have moved online. 7.6 billion people in the world and those numbers are growing. I have been declared unfit for work, but if they ever harassed me to find 'so called work' again I would end it even sooner. I'm done slaving away for this lousy system of profit and greed. It didn't provide me anything but stress and pain. I'm sorry you are having to go through this bullshit. You deserve better. We all do.

I'm so sorry for your unemployment
But a HR lady explained to me that:
If you apply to "downgrade" job, e.g you worked as manager at ACME for 2 years and had a good salary, and also a bachelor degree, You had less chance to get hired in more simple jobs that your previous ones.
Example: you apply for a Subway sandwich franchise. if X manager looks at your CV , they probably assume that you will not stay much longer because your skills and experience can qualify for a better job. So if John or Jane Doe arrives at the same Subway, 19 years, no or little experience , this Subway manager will hire John or Jane Doe because will be easy to manipulate. Why this happen? Because hiring people cost money to companies, let me explain: it's more profitable to hire a not qualified person who probably stay for 3, 6 months than a person who had the profile to being hired in another company.
Does it suck? Yeah, Human Resources managers are my arch enemies.

Have you only applied by sending e-mail or filling application forms online? If so, you could also try calling the recruiters a few days later and remind them of your application.

Applying for jobs is tough - I know.

I'm a fool and have always lived in a dream world … I used to engage the world and follow news avidly … now I just try and hide pretending the real world doesn't exist …. I wish insanity or depression would simply blanket me in madness so I could sleep … but my brain keeps trying to heal … I don't want to heal…. I see all these people working so hard at boring jobs … I just want ti be left alone … I want to be catatonic …. Eating cereal every meal and covering my head in a blanket …. Playing chess online and reading SS… I wasted all my savings and faked my way through life trying pretend things were normal … they were never normal …
