  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I am thinking about making a snuggle hitch with one end of my shoelace, and make a slipknot with the other end of my shoelace in the horizontal metal bar inside my closet.
Then, I will pour 100 mL of chloroform to my mask, wear the mask and put my head in the noose.
I can only use shoelace, because I don't have access to rope. But I am sure the shoelace is strong enough.

Do you think would shoelace create enough pressure to suffocate me?
And, would chloroform work for this method?

Thanks in advance for all replies :)

I've considered doing something similar, partial hanging and carbon monoxide because if one doesn't kill me, the other will! and it would also induce unconsciousness without needing to do anything. Realistically it's not easy for me to get the charcoals lit and bought through my house upstairs and it requires too much set up. But in theory I guess it could work. Out of curiosity, as you can't use rope, why are you so set on using shoelaces? Most hangings seem to be done with household items like clothing, bedding, scarves, belts, cables, cords etc anyway.. the amount of times my shoelaces have snapped when I've simply tried tying my shoelaces makes me think they might not be very reliable?

I tested my shoelace, and it's never being broken when I push downwards with my hand in it. But I am just not sure if shoelace would be strong enough to suffocate me. What do you think?

Well.. psych wards confiscate shoelaces for the reason that some people have attempted and occasionally succeeded with hanging themselves with their shoelaces so it is viable.. but as for strength, reliability, level of discomfort etc I have no idea as I've never tried it. Shoelaces are typically thin so I imagine it would likely hurt more compared to another item that's thicker.. but we're all different so everything is more or less and sometimes things are more tolerable for others.
