Hello guys.

UPS is giving me trouble due to the package being declared as gift and want to know the contents and value. Any of you had a similar experience? How did you justify the package to them?

That's odd because if it's marked as a gift how would you know what was in it!? Or even that it was coming to you?

I'm not sure the best way to handle that situation but from what I've been told it's not usually marked as a gift. I read your other posts and you say that the first package had issues also and was returned to sender. Have you spoken with the sender since the reship and this sencond issue?

Being marked as "gift" or "sample" doesn't make it anonymous, people don't send random packages to random people. It's just used as a means to avoid customs (doesn't make a difference here anyway).
They are asking for a believable declaration of value, a personal statement of what I paid. They know the shipping was at least 70 bucks so it's not like I can say 1 dollar. It's not unusal, they asked me in the past for foreign purchases like chinese cellphones (which usually come with understated values as well in the package).
And the first package was sent back after two weeks because for some reason UPS didn't contact me for this declaration of purchase. They did this time.

I was just saying that it's suspicious on their part.
Being marked as gift doesn't make it random. I was suggesting that maybe you can declare it may be a gift from family/friends abroad that you were unaware of. Depends what you already told them.

To be faw I could be missing something. Was just trying to help.

I'm planning on declaring it as a personal sent package yes, but at least I'll have to provide the shipping value and pay tax on that. I just wanted to know if anyone did it successfully as it seems to be just a tax formality so far, or if everyone just dumps it.

I haven't heard of anybody having to do this with D in the past but may have missed it. It just seems odd for it to have issues twice in a row from somebody who is used to sending out these packages. It suggests the possibility that it's somebody else filling orders and forms if they are making errors this way. I hope you manage to work it out. Good luck. Tread careful.

I know most people seem to be receiving packages with no issues but in the past every 1 out of 5 packages from abroad ended up requesting proof of purchase, even legal ones, and seems that it's getting worse in the EU, and if I can solve this with a form it's easier than keeping paying for resends if they keep holding them for lack of receipts.

I just hope it is only a paperwork issue. Best of luck. Let us know how you get on.
