UK Targeted interception warrant

My boyfriend who knows I have been suicidal in the past.. well today he suspected something, said to me 'what if I told you the police were checking all your packages?' he went on to say 'ever noticed some of your parcels look like they've been tampered with?'

I tried to act unbothered. Is this something that could actually be true? Could my address be targeted and be being checked because my boyfriend has told the police something?

Anyone work for royal mail or the police in the UK and actually know is this is a thing that could be possible? Or was he bluffing. I'm worried.

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm going to back up what Fakereality said. The way you said your boyfriend said it sounds creepy and manipulative, and all around fucked up. It's not normal for someone to do or say something like this as a threat.

He's a pretty shitty boyfriend in many ways it's true... I barely see him because he is always busy doing other things.. anything but being with me. It hurts. But he is lovely in lots of ways too. I can think of much much more outwardly abusive nasty men than him... but yeah I do know that with this, he feels heavily burdened and is probably scared stiff right now. He said it in the middle of a pretty headed discussion whereby I was refusing being suicidal (his hunch is infact correct, I'm really bad and he's totally right). I don't think he thought about it before he said it, think it just came out spur of the moment. I don't know what his intention was through by saying it... all I can think is it was to see my reaction to maybe to try figure me out / if I had bought anything.

But idk if he's serious and has somehow done something to intercept my post. As be knows I've wanted to order stuff before...

Maybe you can have a conversation with him about it? Personally, I have to communicate with people if something's bothering me. I would ask him to elaborate on what he meant and why he brought it up.

What kind of laws do you have in Britain to protect your privacy? Do they have to get warrants before they can search your belongings? Is it enough for your boyfriend to simply say "what he thinks", without actual proof, and have that result in a warrant of some kind, assuming that's how things work there?

I'm not a legal expert but unless you're getting your packages imported in which cases customs would be able to check them, the police can't search your belongings without a warrant. I understand the paranoia but trust me the police have other things to do than track people's post. He's just making it up to scare you I think.

Yeah I can't let anything hang normally, but trust me i've much bigger fish to fry in our relationship. And if I make a fuss he'll just think he's right to be concerned and probably fess me up. I can't afford that.

I think you would have to be suspect of something incredibly illegal and dangerous for a warrant to examine your packages, at least those not imported. But if I wanted to be sure, I'd put together a package that would make such opening/tampering obvious and mail it to myself.
