UK people what has been your experience with NHS Mental Health care?

For myself, I was assessed by local talking therapies team and declared too high-risk to receive their help. I can accept that, but there is no other care offered other than crisis intervention. So I'm simultaneously too high risk and not risky enough to receive care or treatment.
I suspect this pattern is very common and that many people who end up committing suicide fall into this gap. I think something should be done about it.

i can completely understand your predicament.

when i was in a downward spiral, albeit legally related, i wasnt committing "serious enough" offences to warrant close supervision, but on the other hand i was in court every couple of months for the same stuff over and over... so they werent gonna let things slide because i was a persistent offender, but not serious enough to get meaningful help and intervention...

personally not great, but also, i have had some good experiences, ive spoke to some lovely and genuinely caring people during my time spent in mental services, but my experience with the crisis team was absolutely awful, i wanted to be honest with them, so i told them that i was planning to end my life with a helium exit bag, the psychiatrist wrote in my notes that i was planning to strangle myself to death with a balloon... and he also wrote that my parents were beating eachother up when i was in college (they have been divorced since i was ~5 years old) so some dont listen, i was discharged from their service when i had to move out of area for 10 days because my mum was getting an operation, but honestly im glad

i cant get therapy because im "too high risk" and also because im underweight from my eating disorder, also apparently because i have "complex psychiatric history" i have done therapy before and dbt helped me a lot when i had a lot of ocd tendencies related to health anxiety and contamination, its something i rarely struggle with now

its a really mixed bag, the mental health system is not up to standard overall, but its incredibly underfunded, but there are some great people who work in it that genuinely want to help you

I had an experience almost exactly the same when I first was under the mental health team. Too high risk for therapy (due to the short term destabilisation it may cause) but not high risk enough to be admitted to a ward. It's infuriating how there is essentially no support outside of very specific circumstances.
