Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

UK government intends to further ban the encouragement of ctb content.

In the proposed intentions and update of law, social media companies could face fines if they fail to remove certain material.

My immediate thoughts turn towards a government that has proven to be incompetent in so many ways. Apart from crashing the economy, which no doubt will result in needless human loss of life, the proposals to tighten law on self harm raises more questions than answers in my oppinion:

How and who will police online material in a scenario where we do not have sufficient law enforcement to deal with street criminals!?.
How and who determines ' encouraged ' in the the face of recent ctb cases!?.
The internet is awash with sexist, racist, bullying threats, on numerous platforms!
Freedom of speech!

thoughts??

Yeah- very worrying! I thought about this the other day. I think someone mentioned- would a (common) phrase on a goodbye thread like: 'I wish you a peaceful journey' be seen as encouragement? I mean- we are effectively wishing them a quick and painless dispatch.

You'd hope it would be about targetting the disgusting bullies in our society that make people feel like this in the first place but you can bet they will try and take it further.

Even the recent 'Jonels' pro-life thread shows how opposite our thinking is- it's always- 'WE NEED TO TRY AND PREVENT THIS AND SAVE AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE!' And it is all our responsiblities to do this (even if you want to die yourself and feel like the adult population should have the right to make their own decisions.)

It's so selfish to say but I'm so grateful I found this place, decided on a method and got prepared before things (possibly?) become a lot more censored.

The really angry and dissatisfied part of me isn't surprised at all though. Suicide CAN be a clear sign that things in a society are fucked up and people have had enough of it. Rather than try and address the issues- which might even be impossible in our current financial quagmire- it doesn't surprise me at all that they would instead want to restrict information on the more peaceful means of leaving plus censor talk about it at all. Leaving only the very drastic and violent methods readily available will likely put people off and may possibly make those attempts less reliable. It can only work to an extent though- people have and always will kill themselves. Maybe that's the conspiracy theorist in me talking though...

... Thanks @Dot - just seen the article. Oh- think I misunderstood. Yeah, that doesn't seem unreasonable. I don't think children should be able to view sites like these. Plus, the whole online bullying thing is utterly foul. Sorry for the rant!

I'm sorry, 'quick and painless dispatch' has me giggling like a knob over here. That's amazing. Can we use that? Surely that can't be seen as encouragement. Dispatch :pfff: amazon prime yourself over to heaven:pfff:
Anyway, I'm not surprised either. Why would they address the issues - It takes time, costs money, and a lot of those issues are largely intangible. Also, our government are dumb and don't really care that much. At least by removing the ability for kids to access this stuff they will have felt like they did something and will maybe leave us alone. Hopefully.

Thanks. There's already talk on the news today that the proposals are being watered down. I guess one issue would be the right to speak freely.

They don't want to take responsibility. That being said, this forum doesn't encourage self-harm or suicide, therefore the Online Safety Bill doesn't touch this forum. It doesn't matter how much the opponents of this forum repeat that lie. I've talked about the problems with the Online Safety Bill here.

Lol I'd love to see the delusional UK government try to enforce this. Also, VPNs.
