It can hurt, sometimes for only a few seconds and sometimes it doesnt stop hurting. I was referred to the night night method earlier today. Have you checked that out? Seems fairly simple and not very painful.

I'm in the same position right now. Preferably I would like to do partial either today or tomorrow. I don't have access to any ropes. I only have bed sheets. Do you think that could work?
I think people in prison use bed sheets sometimes although I got no personal experience with it
Or I've heard that using a strip of cut towel works as well.. its soft and you can make it any thickness you'd like.
I tie the knot right, I kneel down and the cord tightens around my neck. I sit there for ages, I resist the urge to swallow, I push my head downward to tighten the noose even more. The pressure in my head makes my eyes feel like they'll pop out. And it HURTS, and my survival instinct makes me stand up before I lose consciousness
It seems like your putting too much pressure on your jugular and not corited. You'll want to apply pressure to the sides of your neck, almost at an angle from the first point of contact (above the Adams apple, at a 45) without putting too much on the windpipe or significant side of the neck to attempt black out
I've found alcohol makes it harder, I've always ended up giving up and falling asleep snoring loudly
