Not my preferred method.

Quoting 'The fact you live in Europe is even more of a reason not to ctb by train. As far as I know trains have a special grill at the front and you could bounce off. I'll tell you my methods:'

Train grill. I don't know. In Europe ? When I check some sources (google 'train grill' and pics) I see trains that have large and Obvious grills. Nothing like that here. Also, references to 'life guard' or wheel protection.

(also 'pilot')

Is that a factor ?

The grill is one thing but trains in Europe usually have some sort of guard in front of the front wheels which would make clean decapitation impossible. By comparison in India most trains don't have this guard (or maybe have it higher up) so you will often hear of decapitation by train there. The guard can be very small, often not visible on photos

I have been watching the trains in my town and there are no wheel protectors. The engine has a grill and the sides have lower metal than the rest of the cars. The cars have huge spaces from the bottom to where the wheels meet the track. I have noticed that some cars carrying boxes of commodities also have metal on the sides that prevent easy access to the wheels. I hope this helps.
