I did some digging on this site. It seems that a handful of people attempted getting it in the past 2-3 yrs yet none were successful. It is very much possible to do. I know of a couple people who were able. They passed their experiences on. I will leave them here. I won't go into deep detail about their individual story for discretion purposes. However with a bit of persistence things worked out. It is possible in both North and South America. Despite each experience being nuanced for that region, there were a few general rules that were gleaned from their circumstances.

Based on the prices people are paying to obtain it online from PPeH sources, depending on where you live it could be easier and cheaper to go in person. It could also prove to be a great final trip. Oil prices have been rising lately making airfare more expensive. Depending on where you live rising airfare prices may make this an unworthy journey.

I will not discuss traveling with the item. Just remember it is a controlled substance not an illegal substance. Adderall and opioids are also controlled substances. I've never heard of anyone being stopped for that. It is not like fent or cocaine.

If I can remember anything else I will update this post so that everything is in one place. I hope this is helpful.

Note:
Please do not ask what specific country it was. These are generalized rules that can be applied anywhere to ensure your success. IMHO many people post too many specific details then the sources become over-exposed and eventually stop selling.

Also, please do not ask what the "gold standard" is. That information can be found elsewhere on this site.

Best areas to find shops within a region are the places that are the least touristy. Shops in high tourist areas tend to be crowded and more expensive. In crowded areas, it will be difficult to privately complete the transaction. The vendor may be reluctant to sell. The price should be no more than $110US including a markup. However I wouldn't turn it down if they request up to $200. Do your best to negotiate. Remember there will be few vendors who can complete the transaction. Also consider the cost of taxi or driving around in terms of fuel and personal time. Don't be quick to leave thinking you can find it cheaper elsewhere.
A driver is not necessarily required. You could go to the shops on your own. But having a driver can make finding suitable vendors easier. Look for a taxi driver that speaks decent English. Most vendors in general tend to be more comfortable when there is a local involved in the transaction that can vouch for you. The driver can also assist if your language skills are lacking.
When looking for the right taxi driver try to strike up a conversation about the best attractions to go to in their region, and places to find the best prices for non-touristy things such as restaurants or goods. You want to gauge how knowledgeable your driver is, and how friendly and professional the person is. You also want them to get the sense that you prefer local places, not high end places so that they don't assume you are rich. Find a person whose personality strikes a balance between cordial yet professional. For women this balance is more important. Foreign men may try to overstep their boundaries. These kinds of drivers become problematic. If the person is over chatty, or not able to carry on a simple discussion, find someone else. You want to find a mature driver that has discretion. A driver that portrays confidence and comfort can be a potential facilitator to make the goal easier.
Research a number of shops online. Select shops with good reviews noted for customer service. Also ask the driver about stores on the countryside deep in residential neighborhoods. Many of the shops arent online or in the center of town. Go into the shop with the driver. Let them do the talking and interject only where you feel it necessary. Have a translator app prepared if your driver wants you to speak. At a bare minimum have the name of the product pre-typed out for the vendor to read on your phone. Use the generic name, not the brand. You want to sound knowledgeable like its not your first time. People who are perceived to be doing it for the first time may be perceived as having a nefarious reason for purchasing.
Be prepared to spend at least 2-3 weeks in your chosen region. The first few days will consist of you contacting multiple shops until you make a hit. However even if you make a hit, the shop may have to put in an order to their supplier. Most shops do not keep much inventory in store because it's not a product used daily. Depending on how capable the vendor is, the time spent waiting for an order can range from 1-2 days to 2 weeks. You dont want to be in a situation where you have to pay extra to reschedule your flight. Be flexible. You may also find a store that says they can do it but arent dependable. Dont prepay for anything.
Stay away from shops with female employees or owners. Women tend to follow the rules and will not want to sell to the public. Men tend to be less concerned with rules and more focused on making money. In the rare case a woman will consider selling, they often will not sell anything more than the average dose for one, not an entire bottle. They will also attempt to overcharge using the calculation of the cost of one average dose multiplied by the number of doses per bottle. This is unnecessarily expensive. To avoid this waste of time just stay away from shops with women at the counter.
Now that we live in a global society people are aware of the product's uses abroad. Some are compassionate and will want to find out your reasons for use. Others will assume what it's for and engage in unnecessary personal discussion. If you find yourself having to discuss your intent, the best two courses of practical discussion are to:
Explain that the product is expensive in your home country and you visit once a year to get the product for your manager who has a small business. You work in an animal related business and your boss needs the product on hand but cannot afford a big bill in your country.

The other sensible reason is that you have trouble sleeping and nothing has worked for you until you found this. Mention that it is expensive at home so you buy it when you visit other regions. Explain that you consume a small dose on the weekend with your tea. Make it seem as if its not a big deal; that you are careful and have no intention of using it for other purposes. This alleviates the seller's worries about being responsible for you or your actions. Both the driver and the vendor will feel more comfortable with the transaction.

Even if you are unsuccessful for that day in finding a vendor, tip your driver well. It will make them want to service you again and try harder to locate a willing vendor for you so they can drive you around a next time. You may wind up driving to several places within 1-2 hours. This is time they could be getting other paying customers. Make it worth their time to continue looking for you.

Be flexible with your time during the day. Try looking midweek earlier in the morning or day. Weekends are usually crowded. People are off. Monday can also be a bad day if the store is closed on Sunday.

Nice summary of helpful info. Thank you. I personally wd be scared to go down there, though my mom lived in MX and I've a friend who spends half the year down..Drives down there and back in a van, alone. She also speaks fluent spanish. I should ask her abt safe routes, etc. But I'll say nada abt N nor purpose. Btw, the Pimsleur Spanish audio listen-and-repeat helped me get up to about intermediate level years ago. If one just stays in the present tense, doubles up on infinitives, avoids reflexive verbs and past tense, many everyday transactions can be carried out. People will always appreciate your efforts and will help you. Lived in S. America for a time a long time ago.

Based on current events some areas of MX have become more dangerous recently. All areas are not dangerous though. At least no more dangerous than an inner city area in a popular place like greater London area, or New York for example.

There are a few online blogs and groups that discuss the safer cities. There are still plenty major cities in MX where expats are located and cartels are not prevalent. I'd personally stay away from the areas near the Yucatan, Sinaloa or Guadalajara. There are relatively safe quiet places along the west coast and the center excluding towns with a legacy such as Acapulco.

Too many ugly Americans have taken over San Miguel de Allende. But outside might be fine. Maybe Cuernavaca? Another possibilidad would be to get your affairs in order back home and then take a vacation to MX, get yr N, and like Hotel California, check in, but never leave (except your body). Just tip well. Tape a fifty USD on your forehead. Just make sure you aren't discovered until the deed is done.

Don't know much about Cuernavaca. I'll look it up. Thanks.

Passing in MX is certainly an option. Based on my research it's best for foreigners to have a will in Spanish with a side by side interpretation in English created by a MX lawyer. Otherwise you will be held for autopsy for a potentially lengthy time to determine cause of death and collect funds. There will be lots of drama with your home country's embassy and customs. The embassy will go through lots of effort to track down your family to have your body shipped home.

If you have a will certified by a MX lawyer inside the country, then you can bypass all of this and have your body handled locally. The country holds Catholic values which specify burial. Grave sites are often temporary. Your body can be moved 6mos+ later for someone else to be buried at your location or they can physically bury another person on top of your body due to space constraints in the country. It's a bit morbid. I think cremation there is better. However, you will have to have all legal ducks in a row.

I'm not sure if having a will with local instructions requires some kind of local residency. I have spoken with people who moved to MX since covid that obtained their temp or perm residency status. Most described it as a seamless process provided you have access to an experienced interpreter who works with expats. It doesn't seem that difficult to achieve outside of completing the process. However some may see it as an unnecessary headache. Depends on your situation and CTB desires I suppose.

Not for me personally. But maybe for someone else. If the person's alone and doesn't much care what happens to his/her carcass, then what's it matter? The person will be dead and gone. Of course, if there's property of anything of value, I'd think the person shd take exit in one's native land. As you say, so many legal hassles and cultural hurdles. Burying and then exhuming? Not without Gene WIlder and Marty Feldman on site.
I think Cuernavaca is an artists' enclave, or was. But I know when my mom couldn't afford the States (God bless America), she rented from a family there. They were terrific and loved. But she was an amazingly warm person so easy to love. A natural artist as well.

My currency is so devalued that it's impossible to order N, leaving the option of traveling to a nearby country or trying to bribe a pharmacy clerk (even if I'm not sure they sell it)
I would appreciate the opinion of someone who lives in Peru or Bolivia as they are the closest countries to me
