I recently tried to hang myself, I had it all sorted out and ready to go. I put the noose around my neck and all I could do was swallow, it was a horrible feeling of choking and being forced to swallow repeatedly. Then all of a sudden I became paranoid and worried. I lost all trust in myself and any of my equipment and method. Then I woke up in hospital and I hardly remeber anything from that night. Now I have to deal with all the bullshit aftercare and psychiatrists that are just pushing me to a worse and more drastic method.

How did you fail your hanging attempt and is there any advice for those that need it?

I failed partial maybe 3 times, and full 2.

Full because I did not set it up correctly, but partial because of SI. Second time I tried partial, I was maybe five seconds from passing out but survival instinct kicked in and I survived. I had horrible scars on neck and I had to hide them for about 2 weeks until they faded.

First of all, sorry to hear about your failed attempts. It's a very disappointing feeling to say the least. Failed a bunch of times with partial suspension. And failed a short drop, which ended up turning into a partial suspension hanging, since I ended up with my toes on the floor. And failed the partial suspensions because I couldn't pass out since I couldn't get enough pressure on the carotid arteries. But it's taught me a couple of things for upcoming full suspension hanging.

1. Even though softer around the neck does feel better. Towel/Scarf. A rope is better at putting more pressure, and centralizing better where you want to put that pressure. The softer, the larger the distribution of pressure. And as far as rope goes, static climbing rope would be better than cotton, since the cotton ropes have more stretch than you might imagine.

2. Thickness is important, too thin, and you'll feel it cutting into you. And something way too thick isn't going to localize pressure as well. Most people here suggest static climbing rope between 12-16 mm. And those seem to be the most popular widths when searching online. But I've een seen some up 20 mm, which I believe they said it was rope for gym climbing.

3. In partial suspension hanging, a lot more chance of survival instinct interrupting the process. Full suspension, is more of a done deal.

4. Weed might make you feel a bit too paranoid.

5. Alcohol makes for great liquid courage but makes for sloppy work when you're too intoxicated. If getting massively drunk, now I would have to check, and recheck, verify, test, multiple times, before getting drunk.

6. Pretightening noose around the neck is really important. As well as having the least amount of slack possible. And the shorter the drop the better, less yanking, and less changing of the position of the noose around your neck.

It's not my information and it's all been said on here before. But it's crazy how sometimes we miss little things by accident while reading through it all. Plus, we're all slightly different anyways.

Hey. Sorry to hear that. Did you black out and then was taken to a hospital? Or did you panic and call yourself?

Edit: My hanging attempt failed once in the woods where i was too drunk to pick a solid branch, and it snapped. I also used my shirt for this, which also snapped. Second time was from the inside of my bathroom, i set the rope up on the other side of the door, but once i put pressure on it the door almost broke. So now im gonna try sober in the woods next time.

so in general, maybe use a shirt, make that shit nice and tight before letting myself hang, and dont drink to much. damn. gonna let two fireball shots go to waste

i mean as in use a shirt on the rope to make it more comfortable since its thin
thats probably a good idea, and if you were to fail you wont have these marks on ur neck either. Good luck friend

thanks man. failure isnt an option, ill make sure i die tommorow and tell si to fuck off. just to make sure im doubling down with a plastic bag to cut off oxygen supply

I tried partial, I cant get unconscious, instead I get very dizzy and am on the cusp of passing out but never actually pass out which literally feels like hell on earth because I'm still conscious but in a very distorted and uncomfortable way, literally witnessing my consciousness being unable to grasp onto one singular thought coherently, and I start seeing black and white cartoons play out in my head and my body unconsciously gasps for air and moves on it's own. I guess I'd have to do full suspension in order to actually die. Honestly the feeling of being conscious but becoming progressively dizzier and feeling like your slowly suffocating while being unable to be fully unconscious is hell. If hell exists it would probably be that feeling over a period of eternity.

Survival instinct knee jerk reaction at least for a couple failed. Ripped It off my neck before I knew what my brain was doing. But I had a subconscious desire to not quite be gone yet then.

I think I may try tonight, that part is long gone. SI, to be determined how strong that is now.
