  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Just wanting some peace

Dying should be peaceful and straightforward instead of something that needs to be researched on the internet. If we could all get euthanasia then there would be no need for this website, instead we could just go and we would never need to think about suicide again. People should be able to be open about wanting to die, and suicide should be respected and accepted everywhere, and there would never be a need to post about it on the internet ever. In this life posting and talking about suicide achieves nothing anyway, it only just prolongs and draws attention to our suffering. Sharing how you feel will often mean you just get invalidated in some way as others can never really understand as they are not living your life. As long as we live, we cannot escape from suffering.

I just think that on here it's a bad combination having desperate suffering people trying to find ways out and all the troll like nonsense you see on the rest of the internet, this place is no different really from anywhere else, it feels pointless, nowhere is free from cruel people, this is not really a 'safe space', people joke about suicide treating it with disrespect with the laugh reacts and people get laugh reactions for saying that suicide is difficult for them, and there are even pro lifers on here. This website is just complicated suicide information and is completely useless with no working search function. We have already suffered enough so we shouldn't have to suffer in trying to find ways to leave on a website. People even post invalidating things like hanging is simple, suicide is easy when that does not reflect the reality. I don't want to think about methods again, it's just so horrifying how we have to think about how methods could fail.

There really is nowhere in life that offers relief, there is no comfort in anything, everything is so empty. I wish that we lived in a world where euthanasia is available, where nobody gets their suffering dismissed and their suffering is seen as real. That would be the ideal way to die, to finally be free from this struggle and for everything that is wrong with life to be finally gone. To die and never have to deal with any of this again would be the best thing possible.

I think even if euthanasia was widely accessible, some people would still gravitate to sites that let them talk about their wish to do it, because it is at the end of the day our final decision. Some people like the "community" of sorts of being able to discuss it, some people are undecided, some people would simply go get it done without saying anything to anyone. The focus just wouldn't be on methods but on connecting with people who understand, which as humans we seem hard wired somewhat to do. It's just the majority of the world doesn't understand us, so we come here, maybe for some of us to feel less like we are alien creatures.

I do wish that peaceful euthanasia / assisted death was an option, and at at least reasonably accessible cost for all without having to spend a fortune travelling abroad on top of the fees for multiple dr sign off and running the risk of refusal where you lose the deposit. I get a little bit on information overload with all the worrying about sources and methods when I'm already mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted. The difficulties in obtaining methods are sometimes just beyond me because I'm knackered and my apathy even extends to getting a plan in place that I'm sure, or as sure as I can be, will work.

I do feel trapped in some endless Groundhog Day loop.

The issue is this sort of thing is already extremely ingrained into society (the desire to "help" those wanting to die) - to clash against that and respect the personal wishes of someone wanting to die is to go against the established societal norms. Psychologically this is all well-known stuff, of course.

In an ideal world - yes, this would all be accepted and we wouldn't have to talk here about it. The world isn't ideal and never will be, unfortunately.

It would still exist. We'd still be discussing methods, assuming there was more than one available, like which is better, more peaceful, that kind of thing. And there would still be people coming here hoping to be talked out of it.
