I'm reading Quora threads about what happens on impact with jumping...

"You'll die as a result of hitting the ground but your death might not be instant.

I've seen a gruesome video of a guy who jumped from a great height and hit the pavement. He didn't die immediately, he was conscious, writhing, looking at the guy with the camera. Blood and guts, shattered limbs, and bone sticking out everywhere. Don't even consider it."

🤢🤢🤢

Same, but I've been trying to convince myself that I would be knocked unconscious by the impact pretty immediately and not feel anything. Loads of people seem to think so. Then you come across a response like this.

Posts like these always freak me out but if you jump from high enough even if you don't die on impact you'll be dead soon enough from internal injuries. At least that's what I read.

when I was in high school, my gym teacher told the class about her high school friend who jumped. the friend broke over half the bones in her body, including her neck. she drowned in a half inch of water. definitely not the ideal way to go.

If the video you are referring to depicts a person of Black ethnicity in an Asian country, then it seems that I have indeed seen the same video. That particular video has significantly contributed to my fear and apprehension surrounding the jumping method.

I know it's not ideal, but even though other methods aren't rocket science, they're still quite hard to set up and obtain all the necessary components for. I've spent today trying to convince myself that jumping wouldn't be so bad, since I think it's the easiest method in terms of not having to set anything up. Not easy in terms of SI for sure, but what is?

I haven't actually seen it, I was quoting someone. I've watched quite a few videos of jumpers. It sounds like a horrible thing to happen to someone...

and i've also seen tons of jumping videos where people die instantly, so what's your point? don't expect people on quora to promote suicidality

Nine times out of ten, it is likely to cause death almost instantaneously if you jump from a high enough height, but yeah, if you don't jump from high enough, or some other factor interferes, it could lead to taking a bit before death comes. It is not a method I would recommend, though it is by far the simplest out of most of the methods I'm aware of since it requires literally nothing but a high point.

I don't have some kind of pro-lifer sentiment, but I am trying to weight up the pros and cons of each method. I want to try to figure out the probability of agony, so I'm interested in what people think re. this.. for instance I also just read

"I've worked with people who survived suicide attempts with catastrophic injuries. Some died days later and some continue to live with profound disabilities. They all experienced unbearable pain. Jumpers and shooters were the worst off of the bunch. Yes, unless you are lucky you will feel immense pain as you die slowly of burst organs and bleeding."

now whether that's true, or just designed to put people off, I don't know... but it's worth taking into account the possibility of surviving disabled...

the ones I watched were very low quality, so it wasn't possible to tell if they died instantly... where did you see those ones?

That's the issue I'm having, simplicity. I live with family who would prevent me from taking my own life, so I can't do something with a complex setup. Last time I tried hanging myself, I couldn't do it, so I'm feeling kind of out of options.
