  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Firstly, please don't think I'm a weirdo or doxing people.

I work in the field of IT Security. I've seen several people attach JPEG's to their posts on here of their intended ctb location, pictures of their SN or even of their pets.

What you may not realise is that these files also contain what's called metadata. This metadata will typically contain the model of camera/smartphone, the exact GPS location of where the picture was taken and even in some cases, your actual name.

Be especially careful with iPhones as they typically include GPS data in the jpegs you take with them by default. Without going into the how-to, if someone has that data, they have your home address.

It's an easy process to remove metadata from a jpeg - just google it.

Stay safe and be careful.

If posting from your phone, just get an app like Photo Exif, and delete all the Exif data. Also, turn off location data on your camera app if you're taking any pics around your house or any sensitive areas.

On a PC, right click on the pic, click properties. Go to the details tab, and at the bottom, remove properties and personal information.

Not a problem. But always double-check using the method threesummers detailed earlier.

In two years of ss I only shared my photo by PM twice and likewise. Trusted those members with my life. No regrets, but yeah it's very dangerous.

No, but you could be if you assist anyone to do so. It remains massive grey-area in every legal jurisdiction.

Thanks again for this info- I'm trying to figure out how to edit/delete parts of one of my posts but I don't see the option to. I'm wondering if it's too late now

Edit: well it lets me edit this new post, so yeah I'm guessing after a few days it's impossible to delete or edit a reply. I guess the lesson is to be extra careful with whatever you share on this site

The edit/delete has a limited availability. Not sure how much time that is, but it's not long.

I think you can contact mods to request deletion.

I just reported one of my old posts with an image that couldn't be edited and it was removed if anyone is curious. This is really scary and I had no idea thank you for letting us know.

in addition, you could falsify the exif data if the application allows you to edit the information, and 4chan can find people who kill cats by looking at crazy shit (like correlating airplane flight patterns to the time of day if an airplane is seen in the pic/video) so something that you'd never consider can betray you.

there's also a case where the murder suspect filmed a video of himself fishing on a lake as an alibi. the cops used the change in the sun's position to prove that there was enough time for him to film the first part, commit the murder and return to the lake to finish the second part.

If someone really wanted to find you, they could hire private investigators that specialize in Geolocation and Social Media intelligence to determine when and where a picture was taken. Also YAY for another IT Security professional on here.

As a side question, can hackers use the metadata to hack your device? Cause I suspect I was targeted by something like that.

Unlikely. The most they'll get is the model of the device and maybe the OS/firmware version.
