In my opinion these welfare checks might do more harm than good.
Why?
They're just in search of evidence to pin the accused. That's why they're trying to acquire the actual SN,they might also be trying to get evidence of those who ctbd using SN,so they come out with a statistic on how many deaths were caused by the so called lethal substance because without actual proof of death they can't pin down the seller.
I'm sure they'll soon argue using some figures on what they found on the ground, how many countries had to join the so called "save a life welfare check" to prove their point.
What's the need of visiting someone who ordered SN 2 years ago? if not to confirm if they're dead or alive? don't you think 2 yrs after is too late for a welfare check?
The aftermath of these welfare checks might eventually lead to lots of unplanned ctbs by causing panick, family disputes (where the vulnerable person is turned against and treated bad by the family by inviting the cops to their lives)
It might open up healing and already healed wounds in the name of a checking on someone.
It might also lead to non suicidal part of the family involved becoming suicidal due to fear of judgmental society as result of police random visit.
Once again this is a proof that we exist in a world where people are willing to do anything just to get their work done.

It's truly horrible the way that things are, of course this will only cause more harm, there is nothing good about any of this, it's just a way to cruelly make suicidal people suffer even more.

I think there's no doubt that it has, and will continue to, cause far greater harm than good, for all the reasons you mentioned. It's ridiculous and upsetting.

I have no doubt some of the cops thought "ugh, gotta go deal with the crazies now".

Absolutely, it would just make want to ctb asap, and no doubt I'm not the only one who's thought this. What even is their goal?

They absolutely don't, if we did, we'd have much better resources for suicidal folks, and they would hand them to you instead of just busting down your down

I really worry about those scenarios too, especially how family disputes could affect an already vulnerable person who might be trying to keep going for longer.

I think finding out how many deaths to pin on the seller is a big part of it. It's a shame... whatever his reasoning, I'd hate for someone else to be held legally responsible in any way for my death.

I feel like this will trigger even more ctbs. It's so cruel to make already suffering people go through more pain

Treating a suicidal person like that would just make them more suicidal and vulnerable than they actually were before. The whole operation was just selfish.

It also means more painful methods will be used. I imagine an increase in the number of hangings. More failed od's. More N. So they will try and regulate that next. I'm fed up. These idiots are making it almost certain that people will use more desperate measures.

What they fail to understand is that ,restricting SN is not the solution.

I've been off this site for a while but just got two visits today. I bought my SN almost a year ago.

I think you're absolutely right. I have not felt this overwhelmed in months, and thoughts of self-harm are louder than they've been because of the stress of these "checks." I think they genuinely have no idea what they're doing – they went to my parents' first, they don't seem to know what SN is (they called it a "kit" several times) and had no idea how long ago I bought it or that I've since moved.

I was very polite but I almost wish they would come back so I could give them a piece of my mind. They're harassing innocent, distressed people and causing so much harm to this community.

You hit the point exactly. I personally think I will have to delay my CTB until these raids die down a bit but for others it could be the opposite where now they are wanting to CTB even quicker before the cops show up. Having the police show up and question you can be severely traumatizing and can increase suicidality. Literally the opposite of what these "authorities" want because we will just have to force ourselves onto more dangerous painful methods. Shame on them. They do not want us to ctb becuase they care, they simply need alive bodies to be ensalved to their capitalism and corruption, the only way it will benefit them.

I know it may be tough for most people, but literally try to turn into award winning actors/actresses and pretend like you have no idea what is going on and are clueless about the CTB part. Be confident and make facial expressions in your shock. Know your rights in your country. Search up sodium nitrite uses as your excuse of purchase. DO NOT let them in and search, You do not have to give them your SN. (Hide it well) Say you already finished it, it's all gone for the purpose you were using it for if it's been a while since you bought it. They might try to use scare tactics on you. Stand strong and speak confidently. It is not illegal and you did nothing wrong. I suggest recording before you even start having a full blown conversation. You need to remain calm and sound so it doesn't seem that you are mentally ill. Not too sure about the involuntary hospitalization but as a human being you can state that as a right they do NOT have your consent. This will be tough I know but as humans, we need to fight. You can cry and breakdown all you want afterwards but don't let them scare you. We need to play them at their own game. Think smartly.

Wish you guys well! We're going through a vulnerable, terrifying and absurd time right now. It's absolutely ok to cry and feel bad.

Too much damage actually. Far from helping, they are only making things worse for all of us. My plan was to buy a new bottle of SN every year to have a new expiration but if they stop selling it it will not be possible, so I will have to do it before it expires and I suppose that many of those who already have it will also want / have to do it before expiration even if they are not ready. Even many for fear of receiving the visit and that it will be confiscated will use it even if they are not ready. I have read that it lasts with good storage for longer than the expiration date, but I don't know, I would be afraid to take a risk. I hope it did last many years properly stored otherwise we will be lost

This definitely. I had the biggest panic attack I've had in many months and I got no sleep afterwards. What was supposed to be a decent day turned terrible because I was on edge and terrified that they would come back. I'm still scared they will. Due to past experiences the police cause a lot of fear, anxiety, and panic for me. My father got pissed at me and wouldn't speak to me after what happened. Things have cooled down a bit since but this visit caused further strain on our relationship. If I didn't have my own reasons for holding out for longer I would be making plans to ctb asap.
