Testimonies from Buddhists who can see ghosts suggests that the spirit will be stuck in the process of dying or act of suicide.

They are not able to reincarnate until their lifespan is up.

It is generally considered as a very horrible experience.

Buddhists believe everyone is reborn even if you take your own life. They also believe the karma you create in this life decided what happens in your next life. So basically is you commit suicide it's bad karma and you will have to suffer in some way for it in the next life. I always wondered if I committed suicide in my last life and that's why I suffer so much in this life.

yes suicide gives you bad karma and you likely reincarnate in the hungry ghost realm until your bad karma runs out and once again reincarnate in one of the other realms per buddhist beliefs

Suffering forever in the moment of intense pain in your attempt to relieve it sounds like the most fitting cosmic punishment

That being said I don't think it's a terrible fate

I'm scared of that too. I'm not very familiar with religions as I quit religion classes when I was 10 (and opted for ethics instead). And while a part of me believes in reincarnation and/or an afterlife, the rational part (which I often have to coax out of the depths of my soul) says that there is simply nothing after death. I don't want to sound like one of those angry atheists, but I think the notion of rebirth and the lack of it was created to be something abstract, something to frighten people. I mean how could these "morally high and mighty" ones know? They are just human.

There are no such things as ghosts, as in disembodied humans. Demons and angels, yes, but a human is just a physical being which dies upon breathing its last breath, and dying means no more conscious experience.

Are you a Buddhist? If so, I won't try to convince you.

But if not, then you shouldn't worry. There's no ghosts, there's no spirit, there's no reincarnation and there's no karma. If you don't believe in a specific religion, I think the fact that there's no scientific evidence of anything like that and that basically every one of the many communities of spiritual guides, psychics, priests, etc. have a completely different view of ghosts and afterlife should be enough proof.

I don't know why would you spirit even care if you drank the poison intentionally or accidentally. How is that different?

Tbh in Buddhism it really doesn't matter what you do, if you suicide you're just perpetuating your own suffering anyways since you'll just reincarnate
If I have harmed no one and my death doesn't bring emotional turmoil to anyone, why would my act of releasing myself from pain be a negative karma?? Have Buddhists answered this ? Releasing yourself from pain by killing other animals and creating drugs from it is somehow NOT bad karma. But killing self to release self from pain is bad ?

Is this true for all the cancer patients as well who have chosen death over chemotherapy and radiation? Are they stuck in some other realm , going through the same pain ?
Besides, Karma isn't really like a cosmic score board, it's more like what goes around comes around, if you kill yourself that karma is repaid by being trapped yet again in the cycle of suffering you thought you could escape, or maybe you are trapped in the moment of you death. That's karma for your actions.

Additionally I'd like to add, if you want to get rid of your pain, then in Buddhism you're expected to take the 8-fold path to reach enlightenment, killing yourself just means you're going to live in that pain once more

There is a hawker's tray full of religions and ideologies, feel free to choose something that fits to you. What about Ixtab, my avatar? She is the Maya goddes of suicide by hanging and pulls suicides by the rope directly into heaven.

If you kill yourself in a state of equanimity it is considered as good as enlightenment in some schools. There is also no actual punishment since selfhood is an illusion so you don't exist to be punished.

Why is there cycle of suffering but no cycle of joy in Buddhism?

This is the first I've heard of Ixtab and I started reading a bunch of stuff and this is super cool and interesting. I wonder if other religious pantheons have suicide gods/suicide psychopomps?
