I've been living in my apartment since February and since February, I've noticed dark silhouettes scurrying around.

I thought I was crazy because I am crazy, but no. I have mice. I don't believe it's a result of me because I haven't been living here for long, I live alone, and I'm a clean person. I believe I was sold a mice-infested apartment.

What do I do? Honestly, I want to move out, but I have nowhere to go. This is so frustrating. I called the leasing office and they sent an exterminator, but all he did was lay down traps.

I need help.

did you leave any unopened doors?
It might have been a lone one who wandered in. Weirdly enough I found a roach in my house yesterday and panicked, today I deep cleaned the whole house but it looks like there aren't any others and it wondered in because I left the sliders open when I went to work. Going to sleep with that thought can be very frustrating especially when you're trying to keep the place clean.

Getting a cat could be a solution though

I had a mouse problem, and I did a lot of searching around the apartment that I live in, it is a newer building.

Guess what" When they were putting in the pipes for the hot water heating system, where the pipes go through the walls, they did not fill in the space around the pipes and it was a huge highway for the mice to come in. I bought a lot of calking material and filled in all the space between the pipes and the walls and bingo no more mice again ever.

Depending on what type of heating system the building has, I would look around where the heating system goes into and/or through the walls.

Mice can squeeze through the smallest spaces that one could ever imagine, so I would also look at every wall from top to baseboard and around the windows also.

Also look around the main door that comes into the apartment. Mice are VERY good at squeezing through the smallest of places.

At least in all my experience traps do some good but not by much and they will more than likely not entirely solve the issue.

One does NOT want them to start a home and especially a family in the apartment as then getting rid of them will be tough.

Always around and wishing you the very best.

Walter

No. They've always been here. Like I said, at first I thought I was crazy, but now that I know it's mice, I've recontextualized everything. They've been making noises since the beginning.

I had mice in the loft once. It really freaked me out. Again, like Walter mentioned, I reckon they got in through a small gap in the garage wall. So- look for gaps they may be using. Are they eating your food? Obviously, they're staying put because they've found food and water. I'd put food in plastic sealed boxes or metal tins, so they can't access it. Hopefully the exterminator will know what to do to get rid of them.

It's sad. I do love animals. I don't enjoy killing them but when they're in your living space, they can do so much damage.

No. My food has remained untouched. Like I said, I'm a clean person, so I don't know why they're here.

I expect you're right and that they were established there before you got there. I guess it's why any animal comes in though- food, water, shelter. They may well be finding food in another apartment I suppose. Is the whole block leased by the same landlord do you know? Have they put down poison or, snap traps? It's distressing though. I'm sorry. I hope they sort it out quickly.
