So I've finally decided I need to talk to someone. I need to vent and let out what I feel to a professional. I feel like I need to be honest about my sweacidal tendencies. Does anyone out there have experience with this? If I do tell a therapist what I'm planning to do will I get sent to the looney bin?

That's a huge part of why I'm afraid to try therapy, I can't be honest about being suicidal because I'll get sent to grippy sock prison and probably lose my job and my apartment because of it. And if I can't be honest about it then what's the point of therapy.

If you really intend to talk about everything (incl. your CTB desire and plan, should you have that) with a therapist you might end up in a psych ward, just reconsider your plan. What do you expect from doing this? It sounds like you seek help, which is fine! I hope you make the right decision for yourself.

I personally wouldn't talk about anything regarding ctb stuff with a therapist but that just my opinion.

In my experience it really depends. I know people who have been sent to psych wards for telling their therapist abt their plans & I know people who told their therapist how they were going to ctb & the date & the therapist didn't even tell their parents. Sorry that this isn't actually all that helpful but in the end its really up to how the therapist does things.

in my experience just wanting to ctb but "not having a specific plan or date" wont get you sent to the loony bin. If you tell the therapist you have plans and you know the method and date then you are likely to get locked up. U can tell them you want to but you are not going to (make up some reason like family or friends, idk) and then they cannot really lock u up... depends also on country...

I wonder if- to be on the safe side- you can say that you've had suicidal thoughts in the past. Or- like @jonghyun suggests- you can hint at still having them but that you don't have a plan or intentions to actually do it. I'm not sure but I think- so long as you don't seem like you're in immediate risk- maybe you'll be ok. I think it depends on where you live though. The US seems more keen on sectioning people to me than other countries. If you feel comfortable in disclosing your country of origin- it may be worth asking other members about their experiences. Not that that's a sure way to know either but you may be able to guage roughly. Good luck though. I hope it helps.

I just would say to only tell a "professional" your less important problems, just to start to see how they react. If they say you need to be sent to a psych ward then you know that you can't trust them, and you need to fake getting better, so you can gtfo. However if you find someone you think you can trust, always tread lightly to just make sure you don't end up in the ward. My overall point is to just stay vigilant when you are talking to your therapist.

If you actually want professional help, go ahead. You could end up in psych ward, but if you intend to get better it could help (or not, depends on each person's experience)

Sorry I'm replying to u all at once but I think I want to say the same thing to all of you...tbh I'm still going to ctb...but for the time being I just think it would help get rid of alot of anxiety if I can tell someone what's going on with me since I can't really communicate it to anyone else like I can on here but I don't believe any of us are mental health experts lol...I plan on beeing completely honest EXCEPT for the method...I do want to say that I think about it when I wake all day till I go to bed....also I'm in the u.s and might go back to california
