  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

The framework of building a case for both reporting and for science is testable proof. @fixthe26 and the kellikaren has resorted to a set of logical fallacies to give her evidence:

1) there are many uncounted "secretly deleted accounts on sanctioned suicide that have raised the deaths by people logging in as users". "This can't be verified but it is surely happening so the total suicides by members on SS is much higher."

This is called a special pleading. It means that the person making an argument doesn't have a set of data to verify something so they make a 'special pleading' to include unknown and unverifiable information.

In this case the total number of deaths that have been estimated by the article in the NY times is similar to the numbers reported in the national poison database ascribed to death by ingestion of sodium nitride. Although the national database is lower than SS, the US national database is only recording US deaths in their registry. The total number within the US is likely close or exactly at the number in the registry.

The data we have is that roughly 45 verifiable deaths have occurred worldwide with postings verified on sanctioned suicide. There is no evidence to support the idea that hundreds or thousands are unreported and secretly covered up by sanctioned suicide admins.

This special pleading is a common tactic by emotional people who want data to support their claims and when it does not the resort to an unverifiable set of special pleading claims.

2) SS is a cult of death promoters run by incels and linked to groups who both profit and reach a perverse satisfaction by encouraging and recruiting people to die.

This particular logical fallacy has at it's core both special pleadings and a set of anecdotes

Continuing

Often non scientists cobble together anecdotes and call them evidence. The plural of anecdote is not "data" it is a bunch of anecdotes.

First, the total number of deaths in the USA to sodium nitride is less than 45 through 2020 as verified in multiple scientific publications in my previous posts and it is not increasing as of the end of 2020 in the national suicide and national poison registry. There is not an "alarming increase" in the number of these cases for young people which is led by trauma first, and then suicide. The number one method of suicide by a significant margin is firearm and sodium nitride ranks a distant nearly at the bottom by percentage and percentage increase and total is less than 50 in a three year period.

Second there is a strong desire to tie this forum to other online elements such as incels, pedophiles, child predators and psychotics who enjoy seeing people take their own lives.

A view here is the idea that an anecdote or even the potential is enough to viscerally raise a reaction that assumes that the entire linked enterprise is completely corrupt.

This is the same as finding out that an apple employee stole and the entire company must therefore be corrupt or that if a person is killed by a police officer then all police "are killers"

In my linked research there is absolutely no evidence showing that the incel community is connected to an increase in suicide rates or that a large percentage of users at sanctioned

At sanctioned suicide are incels. There appears to be a high percentage of incel community members that are suicidal but the data is difficult to define

The visceral and loud repeated statements that "sanctioned suicide is run by incels trying to recruit people to commit suicide" is not a fact or backed up by data unless data is considered an anecdote of "a member of sanctioned suicide is a ln incel member and that member condones suicide". That would be a data point.

One thing that is a hypothesis of mine and I would love to back up with data is that:

1) many members of sanctioned suicide are frightened individuals who have both lost hope and lost the capacity to endure their pain.

2) conventional therapy has not decreased their feelings of hopelessness or desire for relief and they have turned to sanctioned suicide.

3) the existence of the community demonstrates an unmet need in the clinical and suicide treatment community that millions of people are not being helped by existing modalities of treatment

4) the existence of the community further demonstrates that many depressed individuals do not have access to treatment adequate to their needs.

I base this set of observations on the large numbers of individuals on this forum as referenced by logs obtained in the NY times article and on the fact that the overall numbers of suicides increases and the overall numbers of mental health conditions related to anxiety, depression and personality disorders continue to increase as well.

This is just a set of hypotheses. I do feel mine are more testable and better hypotheses than those of Kelli @fixthe26 whose cry is the repeat post of the NY Times article, special pleadings related to death cults and more deaths than are actually reported in coroner and poison control and a logical fallacy related to incels or pedophiles that has all the validity of QAnon.
