That case was discussed on this forum a lot of times. It's an execution rather than a voluntary euthanasia, and there are reasons to think that the sentenced man violently resisted and his behavior could lead to leaks in the mask, making the entire procedure longer than it's supposed to be under normal conditions.

some people have strong feelings about the use of the death penalty, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the reports are exaggerated. Idk
