  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

a store that i frequent will sometimes allow solicitors/advocates of various things stand outside their establishment. it's usually phone sales/petitioners for donations and stuff like that. but last week there were 2 business casual dressed guys standing under that usual tarp when i was walking in, and this time they were advocating for "suicide prevention". it was raining lightly and i was just trying to get in the store to get what i needed and leave without issue.

i was leaving when the guy there asked me for just a few minutes of my time we're trying to fight against suicide" or something to that effect. i kept walking and said no thank you, he asked me if i was sure, that it would only take a minute, that it could "save someone". i just smiled and told him to have a good day.

this happened days ago but i keep thinking about it. i keep thinking about how ironic it was i guess. this man with a face that said "don't you care?" when he had no idea that i am actually pro choice. that i actually want nothing to do with the kind of people who think the way he does. so presumptuous to believe that everyone who is suicidal needs saving. it also made me uncomfotably aware of the fact that you would never know from looking at me that i am going to end my life before the end of the year. it just really stuck with me.

im sure they mean well, and i agree there should be help available for suicidal people who want it. but the thing of it is, these people are very rarely offering any service that would make any of our lives better. a prison sentence for being honest with a professional isn't empathy or "help", it's torture. pro lifers are delsuional and completely out of touch. i believe that no one in a clear state of mind should be forced to suffer, i am not a terrible person for believing that. these pro lifers think that they are so righteous, it makes my eyes roll.i have no way to tell if this guy was some pro lifer asshole or just a genuine person hoping to make a difference, i hope it's the latter.

i don't know why i thought about it so long, i just thought i'd share this interaction here because i can't tell anyone else.

It would have been epuc to explain why you're pro choice but he probably would have called the cops. They're so worthless.

the act of trying to explain a pro choice pov is a waste of time unfortunately. they will never understand, which honestly i would rather they don't experience what it's like to realize that suicide is not a selfish act. ignorance really is bliss. also i have really bad anxiety so i would rather not speak to a stranger, especially one as pushy as this man.

I had fun the other day battling pro-lifers on Reddit the other day. Maybe I convinced one or two to be a bit more pro-choice, it is possible. They don't get stood up to often because there's a stigma against doing so, so when you do stand up to them, some of them learn a new viewpoint. But on the whole, yes, they're unwavering

100% agreed the problem is they are fed that life is precious save it and if you do you have done a very kind act which indeed is true but they should also use their brain I just hope someone who is suicidal doesn't become a criminal or hurt these pro lifers I haven't heard of such thing but an already damaged person can go to that extent if you just keep doing to please yourself that you are saving lives you are clearly but use brain. I would give pro lifers choice like they are homeless they have noone they are going to die anyway and gonna suffer so bad sounds ridiculous but they would get the gist of they have are open minded or I can make the example less ridiculous they wouldn't know how hurt someone can be from something it's not always all the things and they would understand they would consider it. They are probably doing the good work as long as they are happy and would be in the position of people who are considering other options if they were in as bad a position. I can only make these points if they agree or someone does then they are free or even free to not agree but this is the point and feels real. Life is only when it's bearable I don't think there won't be a single pro lifer who hasn't considered this or cbt themself but why would other pro lifers or media cover it?

More resources are put into advocating for mental health awareness than into actually helping. The resources currently in place are not remotely good to begin with, and the waitlists are absurdly long or expensive in most cases. Therapies are usually one size fits all and a lot of meds are slightly better than placebo and are handed out without a second thought. I think we will look back at current MH treatments as barbaric and inhumane, similar to how we do now at past treatments.

Until society changes to support suicidal people in a more compassionate and humanitarian way, we will continue to repeat the cycle.

I find pro lifers to be annoying personally. If they want to live then that is their choice but they should just go and enjoy life and not force their beliefs onto others. It does frustrate me how suicide is viewed as something that must always be prevented no matter what. A lot of pro lifers are delusional as to the cruel reality of existence and some people simply want to escape from a life that they never asked for and don't see as being worth living.

There's nothing wrong with that, as after all we will all die eventually someday so I see it as being preferable to exit when the time is right for me rather than it being out of my control.
