• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

It's an excellent song, don't get me wrong. I like the song. But people misinterpret what it's about, for one thing. It's not about suicide. I am a huge Blue Öyster Cult fan and I've been to see them live about, I don't know, 20 times or something. If I had the money, I'd follow them around. The song is actually about whether love exists beyond death. In other words, if you love someone in this life and then you die and they die: will your love last beyond into whatever is next. People just think it's about suicide because he mentions Romeo and Juliet. And they talk about "40,000 men and women every day". That number doesn't correspond to how many people commit suicide. It's technically just a number that the guy that wrote it, Buck Dharma, said they used because it fit the rhythm of the song. But when I was younger, I misinterpreted it like a lot of other people did and assumed it was about suicide, which is why I started listening to it and why I started listening to Blue Öyster Cult.

I also was given this book by some religious relative of mine called "Why Knock The Rock" That basically listed all of these different rock bands and lyrics and song titles and album covers and such and claimed that they were all satanic and all this other crap. I basically used the book as a how-to of which bands that I should be listening to. This was actually one of the songs that they mentioned and they mentioned it as being about suicide, which it's not. They misinterpreted it just like everybody else does.
But Buck Dharma is one kick ass guitar player. He's probably one of the most underrated guitar players that ever existed.

I bet you didn't know posting this was going to result in a sermon or a novel, did you? :pfff:

I just love the song honestly lol. Not even sure where I first heard it... could've been Steven King's the Stand when in the movie lol.

But yeah, tons of songs are misinterpreted! Then some songs you think are like about X, then the artist is like "oh, yeah, no it was actually because I was in love with this person but couldn't tell them, so I wrote this song about a car crash (or something completely unrelated rofl). and people are like 'well then.....' because it's just a song wih no real meaning to anyone but the artist really lol.

Actually I think there was an Evanescence or similar song like that--the singer wrote a song in code more than anything, so the song meant nothing about what the song even seemed to be about.

You're right that they did play it in The Stand.

That's true, once you put a song out there it's free to be interpreted any way people choose to interpret it.

I seem to remember that was one issue that Kurt Cobain had. I think I remember reading some interview where he was extremely upset that frat boys were listening to his music because he said he was sure those were the same types of people that picked on him when he was in school. But once you put a song out there you can't choose who listens to it or how they interpret it.
And I think at the end a lot of people were calling Nirvana a sell out. I don't see how it's the fault of the band that they got popular. You put out good music your band is going to get popular. To some degree, I don't really know that they had a lot of control over that. Besides, what's the alternative? You spend the rest of your life as a struggling musician playing in bars & you have to have a day job. That doesn't sound like much fun to me.

Granted some artists I don't think care what people think people interpret songs as. IF people are happy, they get money, enjoy. Granted if you ask them they'll probably correct you though lol.

But yeah, struggling artists, having to work a second job to make ends meet so the "wrong people" don't get your music... totally up to you, but don't think most would if they had a choice. That said, I know a number that do have the choice, and they do music as a side, even though they love it and would prefer it as a primary--they just don't like the other crap that comes along, so they stay like they are.
Well, gotta go, see you tomorrow! And thanks for a party

Just ordered a pizza. Thin crust with pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, and extra cheese. I don't think their pepperoni distribution ratio is very good, but I'm still going to eat it.

Papa John's is my favorite!!! I love the garlic butter. Would get plain wings and dip it in the garlic butter.

I got some Barbecue chicken poppers to eat while I'm drinking. It's better if I eat something while I'm drinking just so I don't get sick. I don't plan on getting drunk or anything anyway. Maybe buzzed, but not drunk. I'm hoping to be able to get out of bed tomorrow. :pfff:
I wish they'd serve them plain and let you dunk the chicken in the barbecue sauce yourself instead of drizzling it over the top though.

That's not nearly enough sauce. I like my "wings" saucy. Oh man now I want Buffalo Wild Wings. I wonder if they're on door dash.

@BlueWidow youre making me so hungry staring at those pictures!

I haven't eaten all day, and i'm not sure i will cause its better for me to fast than to eat what's accessible to me right now. I'm supposed to be on this stupidly restrictive diet, and if i eat the wrong thing it might make my flareups worse.
