I'm opening this thread to collect the most creatively delusional and blatantly false statements you've come across regarding suicide attempts.

The kind of claims written with the confidence of someone who knows absolutely nothing — not anatomy, not physiology, not neurochemistry — but believes that keyboard empathy is enough to turn garbage into "shared truth."

The internet is full of them: a moral circus where every clown is eager to say that dying is nearly impossible, unbearably painful, and lasts forever — but only if you choose it.

I'll start with this masterpiece I read on Quora:

"People who hang themselves suffer immensely, remain conscious for 7–8 minutes, feel every second of the suffocation, and kick like a mule before dying."

Right. Not a typo, not an opinion: a death rodeo, a sadistic western imagined by someone who probably thinks the trachea is a Wi-Fi router and carotids are optional. 😌

I invite everyone to contribute with similar gems. If the quote includes "destiny saved you" or "the body wants to live," that's double points. If it mentions karma — triple.

Come on. Let's build a museum.

I mean… Isn't it true that hanging is incredibly painful and you only lose conciousness fully after 7-8 minutes? And both unconcious and concious (im probably spelling that wrong) the body flails?
That's why drop hanging is the best method if done right, because your neck will break = minimal suffering

This is what I have thought for 6 years??

Anyone who hangs themselves with continuous traction on the neck loses consciousness within seconds. There is no "if" about compression: with the body's weight — even partial — the jugular veins, carotid arteries, and often even the vertebral arteries are automatically compressed.

It takes only 5–6 kg of pressure to compress the carotids, even less for the jugulars, and around 15 kg to significantly affect the vertebrals. The weight of the human body always exceeds these thresholds. Even in partial suspension — kneeling or sitting — cerebral blood flow collapses almost instantly.
Consciousness fades in 5 to 15 seconds, at most.

What's seen afterward — shaking, twitching, spasms — is not consciousness, but spinal reflexes and terminal motor activity.
The narrative of 7–8 minutes of lucid agony is a myth. It exists only to scare people or make moral arguments. It has no basis in medical, anatomical, or forensic evidence.

I came across one guy on this forum regarding CO via charcoal burning.

"You have to heat the stuff for hours inconspicuously, get it into your car which you've sealed air tight with tape, then get in without letting the co dissipate or knock you out before you close the door. Likely cable tie your hands to the wheel while holding your breath. And you have to stay in there, if you get out it's all this for nothjng"

and then he tried to start a ridiculous argument with me when i shared links to the proper information and i said, every method requires research and planning with a clear mind. its fine if he thinks that, but giving false information publicly can cause harm to others

In full suspension, what determines unconsciousness is the continuous traction — not the rope diameter, as long as it creates sufficient pressure. A 5mm nylon rope is fully effective, and even a 12mm rope causes unconsciousness in 5–15 seconds if no foot support exists.

There may be a brief discomfort in the first few seconds, especially due to pressure on the neck structures. However, in many cases, this is quickly overcome by the vagus nerve reflex, which can trigger immediate syncope. The loss of consciousness is often too rapid for the brain to register sustained pain.

Crazy and grotesque! Unfortunately it is full of misinformation. I even read that 12 grams of heroin are not lethal. 🥱

I asked you to tell me specifically what you had a problem with. "Likely cable tie your hands"? Because that doesn't say it's necessary, but in another thread you specifically posted in someone used the co method in the bathroom just like you're planning to and they "must have crawled out because si decided it was not their time to go".

When the first inmate was executed using nitrogen in the US, I read about it on multiple news outlets. I was shocked by how much misinformation was on the news articles.

Read this one: https://www.wvtm13.com/article/alan-miller-execution-shelby-county-nitrogen-alabama/61213349

"The execution was a disaster. Multiple eyewitnesses reported a horrific scene, where Mr. Smith writhed on the gurney and foamed at the mouth. Instead of examining potential deficiencies with their protocol, the State has shrouded it in secrecy," his attorneys said.
In the Friday court filing, attorneys for Miller argued the nitrogen protocol did not deliver the quick death the state promised the courts it would. They argued Smith instead writhed "in violent pain for several excruciating minutes."

Ridiculous, if anyone knew how inert gas asphyxiation works, they would know that it wouldn't be violently painful. The guy was just struggling because he wanted to live.

I once came across a website that claimed that N is not a peaceful way to go and listed a bunch of "myths" about it. From what I remember it said that it doesn't knock you unconscious, it's not painless and death can take several hours.

I honestly don't know. But, there's no such thing as a question that shouldn't be asked. Still want to know where you heard that from lol 😂. Man, that would really suck if it were so. Btw, laughing with you, not at you.
