Think about, wouldn't you want your solution to be permanent?
Otherwise WTF is the purpose of trying to solve problems? The way I see it, life is nothing but constant struggle and problems. Even when you're happy and content, it's brief. Christmas really only lasts a few hours every year and then it's back to the grind.
So yeah, I've never understood why this phrase is supposed to deter me from CTB. The word "permanent" feels beautiful to me.
Well, you see. For some people life has ups and downs. So what they're trying to say is 'Dont permanently throw yourself into a void over a temporary thing where you cant experience happiness too'
I'll never understand the people looking for joy. This is life, everything is temporary except death (Even chronic illnesses are ended by death! Think of the most complicated thing in life and there will be some end of it!) Of course no one will stay happy forever. But people do live for those brief moments because those moments (maybe a person, or some form of nostalgia or a dream they achieved) are worth a lot to them.
But it is rarely a good thing to tell a suffering person. Like on of the replies said, chronic illnesses and such exist. In that case you can only be there for the person while they wait for their impending doom, it would not be nice. The phrase really is dismissive because even traumatic life experiences can be short, it is the impact on the person's life that matters. Not the fucking time.
Basically, they have things in life they look forward to that are worth to them. They don't understand that some people don't. And this is why this misconception happens. I hope my answer satisfied you, please do tell me if there's a flaw on my insight
It offends me actually, because it's acting as if someone wants to CTB because they got a bad grade in school or something.
Now im offended-
Have you ever grown up in Asia? (this may not apply for all) I know all the memes and stuff may be just laughs for others but parents really do give us hell for not getting full grades. The population is large here and so is the competition. Grades are nearly equivalent to our success in life now.
I hope you mean well but please find another way to phrase it.
