  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Prevention tactics were doomed to fail.

Is anyone really stupid enough to think that telling me I'm selfish for considering suicide is going to make me feel better?
Do anti-choice people really believe that making me think about my abusive family's feelings when I die is going to make me stick around?
Do people really think that hearing a random stranger who doesn't even know my name say "I care about your life, I would be sad if you died." is going to make me feel anything but extremely creeped out?
Do friends actually believe that telling me they're other people more or as miserable as me is going to make me feel anything but really pissed off at society?
Are people really blind as to think that telling me I'm lazy (for not curing my treatment resistant mental illnesses) will instantly convince me to live?
Finally, do people really believe that seeing a suicide hotline on a random celebrity's social media is going to make me more likely to call it?

There's no doubt our society is good with sticking plasters but fails to effectively deal with the underlying cause. Just yesterday, i saw several people roaming the streets who I felt needed professional help. I was one of these people ! . But we continue to roam, invisible to uncaring eyes. The situation is endemic and we are the short end of the wedge.

It's difficult for me also. For example I hate all this religious bullshit that my life is property of god. I hate looking for sense and reason in religion because it's too abstract and paternalistic in my way of thinking and christians fetishise suffering as a way to transformate yourself into someone better as a person but this is bullshit as well because constant suffering make you literally emotionally disabled at long period of time in relationshps ( I talk from my own expierience right now). But on the other hand I'm kind of fighter my whole life too angry to die. My philosophy is that every person I meet on my path is a gift. Literally every person changed something in me and made unique mark in my psyche so for me it's not just empty slogan that someone's life is matter to me because I try to be empathetic toward this person and this interaction permanently changing me as a human being as well. There can be huge moral dillema is bactalking someone who want to die is morally right (suicide prevention institution) on one hand we have persona dignity and right to choose, free will. Suffering isn't natural state for living being and we have core right to look for hapinnes and fulfilment this is the main goal in our existence. In my opinion CTB make this goal unachievable forever because death will not give us fulfillment of our existence, or even hedonic pleasure for our senses. We have hope that CTB uleashed us from suffering but this kind of lack of suffering isn't happines or fullfilment because if our consciousness doesn't exist after death so we are not exist anymore so relief by CTB is some kind of a lie because to feel relief, happiness and fulfilment you have to exist, have consciousness. That is the main reason why I think bactalking (suicide prevention) could be moraly right but human dignity during this proces must be protected and preserved it is essential to treat suicidal people with respect because so often motives of this people are bound to unique expieriences and emotions that are beyond our understanding as other entity. I personaly belive that til I exist I can change something in the world and this ability to make a change make my life worth living even the suffering. Sorry for such wall of text but I was thinking about moral aspects of prevention since few days and this is only my thoughts and opinions about it. You will probably have different opinion about that and I fully respect that.

Suicide prevention does not help anything as it is mostly just platitudes. It does not attempt to deal with what causes people to be suicidal in the first place, by dealing with those issues that is the only way the society can reduce suicide. Much of suicide prevention is just prolonging suffering, such as stopping people from attempting. The society tries to force us to live, but we have the right to exit at a time of our own choosing, it is our life, our decision. Suicide is seen as something that must be prevented in every single case, but the truth is that wanting suicide can be a perfectly rational response to someone coming to the conclusion that their life is not worth living, it is a personal decision and nobody else has any say in it.

Suicide is still considered taboo. People know that suicides happen, but it makes most people uncomfortable, so they sweep it under the rug and try to pretend it doesn't exist. They don't know how to deal with it, so they post the national suicide hotline number on their social media, and hope someone else will deal with it and solve the problem. To be fair, these suicide hotlines do help some people. They may even prevent some impulsive suicides. The problem is that the current suicide prevention doesn't go far enough. Society needs to talk openly about suicide and get to the root of the problem. If they want to prevent suicides, they need to talk about the issues that cause people to commit suicide in the first place, and then they have to offer suicidal people practical help for their problems instead of just offering platitudes which don't help anybody. It isn't realistic to expect the suicide rate to go down, if the root cause isn't addressed.

I actually really like this post. I literally feel nothing when even a friend tells me they'd miss me and would feel terrible. That sucks, but what also sucks is that they know I feel this way and don't bother to help.

Someone once told me he'd be there for me and would help me, no matter how long it took; days, weeks, months, years.
You bet he slowly stopped talking to me, eventually told me he was moving and never once bothered to talk to me often, hang out, or even say bye. he never helped me and he seemed to get mad when i didn't feel the way he wanted me to. When I told him I was self harming, he was upset and went on saying how he couldn't do that to himself, it would hurt and he couldn't deal with the sting…selfish asshole.
