  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I need to vent after reading the "click here if you're suicidal"-section on suicide.org after seeing it advertised when I only wanted to play Apex Legends (no, this is not a joke, if you launch Apex Legends you will see this link to suicide.org too.)

Why would I call a suicide hotline? And why would that help? I've tried that, all you do is reassuring yourselves that I won't harm myself and then hang up - you don't solve anything in my life.

Why would donating to your organization "help save lives" as you proudly and arrogantly claim? You have not helped me. Nor any other organization that proclaims to prevent suicide.

How about shaping society in a way that won't create suicidal individuals like me in the first place? Instead of creating these post-hoc hypocritical suicide hotlines.

It is demonstrably false that every person that have attempted suicide and survived "were glad that they lived". I am certainly not, and from what I've seen on this forum many would agree. And why would you guilt-trip someone in agonizing pain that ending their life will only cause suffering for the people around them? As if that is a cause great enough to bear the immense suffering many of us deal with. I find that reasoning laughable.

The "help" that is available for suicidal people in our society is clearly not enough. How many people here haven't tried every anti-depressant and therapy without any result? Advertising it as a viable solution better than suicide is dishonest.

What? I've never heard of something like that. The hell is going on?

This suicide hotline shit has to go. It makes everyone else feel better that theres a "resource" for people to turn to. Theres a lot of institutions like this. Psych wards, VFW halls, rehabilitation centers, etc. They let everyone else feel a little more comfortable because the downtrodden are "receiving assistance". If a society refuses to implement proper help then they deserve the full weight of guilt upon them.

I called the suicide hotline 2 different times and they were unbelievably demoralizing. It was one of the things that lead me to start making serious plans of getting the fuck off earth.

SP hotlines are a very BAD joke. They don't know or understand anything. Most of the psychiatrists have no clue, so what would you expect from some volunteers or part-timers? Pffft! :(

I do not see suicide hotlines as helpful. Talking to somebody will not take away what is causing me to be suicidal in the first place. Suicide prevention just prolongs suffering. Instead, our right to die should be recognised. It frustrates me that suicide is something that must be prevented in every single case and it is cruel how society expects people to suffer. It is our lives and it is our decision.

There are two outcomes calling to a suicide hotline: -you taken by the police, hassled, and things end up worse. You're treated like a bad person for wanting out. You loved ones will never see you the same.
-you carefully chose yourwords, unable to say anything meaningful and repeating the words "I'm safe" as much as they need to hear it. You have a meaningless talk with a stranger who doesn't get it before they recommend you a breathing exercise app and then leave
-the optional third: they don't answer, now you feel stupid and embarrassed

As much as I doubt it myself, I've seen some people say they used those helplines and it helped them. Looks like some people enjoy those standard motivational speeches.

I was with therapists for five years before I became suicidal. Imagine that, they had five years to prevent it and so did I but no one did anything we just went round in circles. Never again, I want to kill myself at the thought
