It was, initially. Journalists don't care about that stuff, or the difference between nitrate and nitrite.

You should watch the video I linked, even if you don't speak the language. SA is not used as meat preservative. SA is explosive, and the guy has at least a crate of it in his home office. Do you really think that he could distribute explosive to hundreds of people and not get arrested for terrorism.
