I have thought this since I was little. People see it as purely negative, but it is the opposite. I would say the only time it is negative is when a person does it impulsively and not as a well thought out choice. Then it is a tragedy. But when someone chooses to do it after draining out all other options of hope, it is relieving. I don't think suicide is "losing your battle" or "not being able to handle life" I see it more as choosing what is best for you. If done under the right circumstances, it is purely a choice for the better, and I hope one day families can see that and think more about the good memories rather than the death so those who are suicidal do not have to feel the constant guilt and pressure that comes with the act. I can't say this anywhere else though, or else I would be considered a bad person who has the wrong idea. I even feel guilty typing this, but how could you look someone so miserable in the eye and tell them to just keep going? My own SI is really pushing me on, especially this last month, I lost any progress I made in mental health but I am not ready to CTB this instant because I want to put more thought into it. That's how I feel like suicide should be, kind of like thinking about what career you want to choose, or where you want to live, it is a choice that only you can make and it should never be shamed upon.

I think there is an issue with a lot of younger people impulsively choosing it as an option when, if they truly plan to do it, they then have all of the time in the world to sit down and really think if their reason(s) really are permanent or if they're treatable. But yeah when my grandmother asked my grandfather to help her with assisted suicide (he did go through with it)after having a major stroke that completely and permanently tanked her quality of life, that should not be seen as selfish. That is putting her out of misery like you would any animal in incurable pain.

I think it's absurd to view suicide as being a terrible thing as we are all just destined to die anyway, death could never be a bad thing for the person who has left as it's the end to all suffering, nobody can be harmed by not-existing and suicide is just a way for someone to take control over their inevitable fate. None of us are obligated to continue existing here anyway and we all have our right to die, it's certainly very wrong the way that suicide is viewed, it's just the reality that some people don't want to exist here, for me it's certainly always preferable to not exist.

People are afraid of the future that stares back at them, they know deeply within that we could be their future staring right back at them. They fear us, because we are stronger than them. Do not let them deny you, do not let them drown you, you walk a harsher road, but we walk together with you every step of the way.

~I hope for you, warmth and care

Who cares what they think of it? not like viewing it differently would change anything, there'd be no free euthanasia easy to walk in clinic and go peacefully. so drop it.

It's very hard for some people to accept there's no hope for someone else. Saddly we don't live in an ideal world. There's cancer, famine, accidents...

Suicide is just us say that life is just not for us. I can't believe that people actually believe that suicide is bad, some people are suffering more than you could ever imagine its just a way to end the suffering. Like is infuriating that suicide is so hard to achieve its terrible, so much for "freedom".

I couldn't have said it any better. Suicide is one of the hardest decisions a person can make. It usually takes a lot of heartache and strife for a person to want to end their life intentionally. Many have tried all the therapies, support groups, treatments, etc.. and nothing seems to be going anywhere regardless of their efforts. Society would be a lot better if the taboo was broken and euthanasia was in place for people who have just had it with life.

Nobody starts life wanting to ctb. Circumstances drive us to it. Society does little to nothing to actually help. Good therapy is expensive and out of reach for most. When there's no other way out our choice to ctb should be respected and allowed to happen without hindrance. Other people's fear of death is their problem.

There is a quote on the wiki page about euthanasia:

Jost argued that control over the death of the individual must ultimately belong to the social organism, the state. This concept is in direct opposition to the Anglo-American concept of euthanasia, which emphasizes the individual's 'right to die' or 'right to death' or 'right to his or her own death,' as the ultimate human claim.

I don't understand. Is there a right to die in the Anglo-American tradition?
