The hotlines are a waste of time. They get your details and send the police if you tell them you are actively committing suicide. Other then that, its a bunch of stuff like "It's just a temporary problem." or "What about your family/friends?".

For me is too bad I got this sh**, my life was very "very normal" but with this is game over. It's just a matter of time. For how long have you had it?

I'm another victim of tinnitus. Again normal before, not so normal now I have incurable screaming in my head for life.

Simply not true in the case of the Samaritans in the UK. They do not call the police and do not give advice. Other lines may be as you suggest but it's not accurate to present them all in the same light

Has anyone ever used the lifeline chat or any of the suicide prevention hotlines, and what was the experience with that? I sometimes think of them when I second guess trying to commit but don't know what that would be like. I know nothing will actually help but maybe just having someone even to just talk through the method will make my decision more clear.
It doesn't work. They just say oh sorry to hear that and do you have plans to kill yourself tonight

I have. It's very acute and not in depth. Basically they just ask if you have plans and have you briefly talk about what's going on. One time I did have a plan and the police showed up on my door.

I drunk dialed a Suicide hotline a couple years ago to see what it's like. The operator sounded like a douche. Better just to dial a friend you can trust who won't send in the white coats after you.

I've called the suicide hotline several times over the past few years. The people who work there are volunteers with various levels of training. When I call, I always get matched with a different facility throughout the country.

I've had 2-3 experiences where the person actually talked to me and acted like they cared. On 2 occasions they hung up on me because I "wasn't in imminent danger." That made me feel worse. One woman I spoke to told me that I would go to hell if I killed myself. I don't know why she thought thought it was OK to say that.

Other times the person seemed annoyed or impatient with me because I was crying and couldn't compose myself right away to answer their questions so I hung up on them. They always "offer" to send police to my house but I always refuse or end the conversation before that happens.

Overall I've had mostly negative experiences but I don't have friends so it was my only option.

There is a chat that I used before about 3-4 times. I think it is somehow good. Not the best thing in the world but it is actually fine. Just give it a go and see what you can get. For me thay didn't contact the cops or anything just talked to me about things. Here is the link

There are good intentions behind the crisis lines, but I've personally never had a good experience with them. I think the biggest mistake I've made when calling those hotlines, unfortunately, was answering their questions honestly -- every single time I've called, the police have showed up at my house and taken me to the hospital, which, based on my own experiences, sucks total ass.
